9k miles & clutch slipping???

I believe my clutch is slipping because just today i gunned it off of second gear only to have my rpm's jump 1k rpm's up and drop back down and go up the rpm gauge. i find it a little hard. I dont have any mods other than a works air filter and mbc set at 20 psi. I'm not running to much power . Most of my miles are from freeway driving. Anyway i was just curious if this has happened to anyone else. im damn near surprised its beginning to go out already. I've had a total of maybe 10 launches. Doesnt seem right so i was wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

It can happen if you ride the clutch a lot or if you have done a lot of hard-slipped drag launches. Mine lasted 7500 miles, but I was running 12.2s with a lot of clutch slip during my launches.

The clutch doesn't normally go out due to power - it's due to driving habits.

Also, it's very surprising that it jumped that far in only 2nd gear. You normally notice it first in top gear with a slight jump of rpms at peak torque. For it to jump that far in 2nd gear means your clutch is on the verge of complete failure already. How did you not notice it in 5th gear on the highway?

There is a restrictor valve in the clutch line, it prevents the clutch from fully engauging when you release it fast, casing the slip.

take out your mbc and go back to the dealer. the clutch should be warranty till 12k miles or 3 years i believe.

it's one of those things that they don't tell you.

i remember i missed out on the warranty on my clutch by literally 1000 miles.

i just noticed this a few mins. ago while driving out for lunch. When i drove here to work in the morning there was no slip in 5th gear at all. Im pretty much cruising my way through the gears. I've been the only driver and even though i've occasionally gunned it i havent had any bad launches for my clutch to even begin to go out. well i just wanted some opinions. on my way home i'll check to see exactly how she reacts to 5th gear. Also since were on topic, what would be a good clutch to go with on my IX.

If you launch the right way you would not have to replace your clutch. My stock setup last me 40k

i'm going to take the car to the dealership this weekend i just think its funny how im clutch is going out after only 9k miles. Of course when you launch your going to burn the clutch a little but even then i've pushed my other cars in the past even worst and still got at least 30k out of them. besides Warrtalon has anyone had their clutch go out before 10,000 miles?

your clutch is not on the warranty, because due to the fact that it is wear and tear..

Er, no, it doesn't work that way. There is a manufacturer's warranty for 12k miles (not 3 years, no way) for a DEFECTIVE clutch, not one that just wears out. It is extremely rare that they take things apart and find that the clutch was randomly defective, meaning a spring fell out, or it just completely fell apart internally. They usually find hot spots and see that the disk has worn out, in which case they don't warranty it and charge you for all the labor of doing the clutch and then tell you to get a replacement clutch and flywheel from them while the car is sitting there.

It's very rare to have the clutch warrantied, because it's very rare that there is a defect that can be found and proven - they default to the clutch being worn out from the driver and charge you accordingly.

NY Evolutionary, the restrictor valve does NOT cause the clutch to slip. That is a completely separate issue.

18k on mine 1 season of drag racing. Running 35R turbo last 500 miles, 409hp on pump still holding strong. Just need a twin for next season and ill be good. I take it you are the first owner of your evo??

Tons of poeople have, man, did you not search? I would think that for something like this you'd spend your time actually searching for info as opposed to just posting a thread and hoping people answer, right? This is quite common, because the stock Evo clutch was made weak to prevent drivetrain damage.
