Injector or valve ticking?

How can you tell if its your injectors or valves that are ticking. I have a mild tick and i was wondering if there is a way to distinguish the two.

Thank in advance!

So im guessing if i hear it coming from directly inside the head it is the valves and if i hear coming from the fuel rail/intake manifold, it will be the injectors?

I have ticking noise also when the car is cold. I think it is the injectors doing it.

I am hearing a tick tick tick sound too! I have only noticed the sound in the past 2 months or so, which happens to have been when it got cold here in Chicago.

I also noticed that I hear the sound only when I am on the gas. I don't hear it when it is idling.

Maybe a clogged hydrolic lash adjuster. DSMs get that a lot.

Put a vacuum hose up to your ear, then put the other end of the hose on the injectors or where you hear the ticking.

"Marvel Mystery Oil"...It's a top end lubricant that can help with things like lifter tap...used to run it in my E36 M3 because the '95s were notorious for noisy lifters...nothing wrong with them, just noisy. This stuff helped quiet them down.

Don't know how it does on an Evo where this little engine runs hotter due to being so stressed...

Do you have Cams? I've noticed alot of ppl complain about ticking after install. I too have this sound, and after reading many posts about it, am not worried. I also have AMS 780s, and they are very loud, but it is a constant noise that is much different than the "lifter" noise I hear.
