Forge UNOS + Cold Weather = Boost Creep?

Ever since the weather has been bitterly cold here in the Midwest, I have had some serious boost creep. I will hit my desired 22psi then it will just climb and climb. Anyone else have this problem?

Same thing happened to me a long time ago.. Take it apart and clean it. It took care of the problem for me

dude I am having the same issue. its been rock solid till it got cold out. once the cold came and stayed and got even more cold I have been hitting peak boost and then after and then start overboosting. mostly in 4th gear.

Try taking apart the BC and using some of my synthetic grease in the garage around the ball just incase its sticking. Poocano

i took it apart and cleaned it. there wasnt anything to clean though. As the weather has become colder I have gradually been lowering the boost controler. It is now turned down all the way. The only thing I can think is that the spring could be weak(since there is no preload on the spring) and allowing the ball to compress it more then it should under higher loads. Any thoughts on what could be causing this particular type of overboosting? BTW, overboosting only occurs in the higher gears, 4th and 5th, above 5000rpm

I would think the spring compressing easier in the boost controller would keep the boost from spiking as much. That's why the stiffer spring is recommended for higher boost application. I would suggest checking back over your boost lines that run to and from the boost controller and make sure they're not leaking.

yeah i was having brain farts, and had it backwards regarding springs. but as of now, the boost controler is turned all the way down. so essentially its running of the wastegate but since the boost control is not regulating boost and neither is the stock solenoid, its totally weather dependant now
sorta sucks.

What is your peak boost in 3rd gear?

With the cold weather you might need to turn it down a bit.

well peak boost yesturday, from a low speed roll made about 18 and held and then another time it made about the same but the boost climbed with the revs instead of acheiving peak boost and holding. Hence the creep factor. The MBC is turned all the way down at this point due to the cold. SO I guess the car is running off the wastegate right now and is doing whatever it wants depending on the weather.

I know I don't need to clean the UNOS. Because when the weather gets back up to normal temps (high 20's low 30's) there is no problem.

4 wheel drift ftw.

I think if your just running off your wastegate you should only be seeign ~12 pounds of boost.
