Just got a Carbonetics twin carbon installed and it sounds bad

I bought this clutch 2 weeks ago, and just had it installed. When I drive it at high rpms, around 4k or more, and let off the gas, and leave the clutch engaged, the thing chatters so loud , its insane. I talked to the people at the site I bought it from, and they said its normal. The people at the shop I had it installed said its normal after 900 for the install, and I even brought it to another shop to have it checked and they took it apart and reinstalled it and its still doing that, and they charged me 1100 to do that. Does anyone have this clutch, and does it do that to you?

yes, its the chatter of the two discs, the cusco is the only one with this design that doesn't make the noise...

Welcome to the world of multi plate clutches. Any twin or tripple clutch with solid discs will make this noise. what you are hearing is the harmonics from the engine rattling the driveshaft when it is not loaded. The twins such as exedy and cusco (called a carbon, but is not carbon) have spring center discs that absorb most of the energy so the noise is minimal or nonexistant. To live with these clutches you have to select nuetral every time you coast to a stop. If you like to engine brake then you are SOL.

Is there a way to mod this clutch with a spring center discs?

I have a triple and it is not loud at all and easy in DD. AMS did a great job on the install and I hear that is important.

I'm not sure about your set up.

good luck

yes twin plate clutches are very loud. and you got shafted on your labor for the clutch installs... 500 tops.

people say the twin plates are streetable, but really the noise they make is way beyond "streetable".

Wow, this is really strange, I just had the Crabonetics twin carbon installed last week, I've just about reached 400 miles on it. I haven't noticed any thing remotely close to what your describing, yes mine makes a slightly funky grind type of noise, but it's very minimal and doesn't concren me. It takes some getting used to the way the clutch engages, but I love the way it grips, my car is definately quicker in acceleration, but I'm not sure how much of it is from my new 3.5" exhaust, as I installed that the very next day. I'm presuming that the shop that installed it did the modification that converts it from a "pull" to a "push"?
I used : http://www.billetdesign.com/home.php for purchase & installation. You should give them a call and ask if it sounds normal, as they"ve installed 4 of these clutches in the past month, they know their stuf and will treat you right, ask for Marco, he's a great guy.
Hope this helps somewhat.

This noise varies from car to car. If you eliminate balance shafts you may have more of a problem. And even more of a factor is the condition of ring and pinion in t-case. The more worn it is the more noise you will have. Exhaust can also play here as well. if the downpipe is too close to t-case vibrations can enter there. And dont forget the driveshaft as well. The u-joints and spline condition can add to the level of noise if they start to get loose from hard launches or poor clutch modulation.

what 94awdcoupe above said is true... noise varies car to car. With the Carbonetic clutch, you may hear a little noise on decel. From past experience on the EVO, the Carbonetic is the best clutch i've used imo.
