There are HUNDREDS of threads that would give you the answers you seek.
No, it will not ruin your engine. Maybe the rear o2 sensor though.
Anti foulers or an o2 simulator will get rid of the CEL light.
The CEL is on because there is no cat there to get rid of the unburnt fuel. The CEL is either telling you one of 2 things. Either the voltage reading from the rear o2 is too high from too much o2 in the exaust or that the cat is not working properly. (obviously, because there isn't one)

No, it won't ruin your engine. The CEL is on because your o2 sensor is detecting (correctly) that your cat is not functioning. Search on o2 fix, there are very many threads on this.

Running a test pipe will not damage your engine, but will hurt the environment and is illegal. You only gain a few HP and your exhaust will stink....

Search on ebay and you can find a mechanical O2 fix for ~$15 (basically it is a spacer for the O2 sensor).....And then disconnect the negative terminal for a minute or so and then re-connect -- your check engine will be reset.

no need to wait for ebay shipping. go to your local autoparts store and find spark plug anti-fouling spacers. you can drill them out to set your o2 sensor out of the exhaust stream. might cost you $8.

I'm sorry but I have to ask....

Why the hell would you put a part on your car if you weren't sure if it could do harm to it? Because everyone else is doing it?

Did you research it all or just have a $100 laying around and saw that you could buy this piece?

I don't mean to be an *** but, damn. Think about things before you do them to your car. This is how people end up wondering why their car stalls after they installed their cool new blow off valve.
