what do you expect if your use to a NA, do you want it to spool fully at 1000 rpms or what.... i personally don't think the evo has that much lag

The person who started the thread was asking what we wanted in a turbo upgrade. I was just expressing my wishes, less lag...

I've had a ball bearing conversion on my standard turbo and the results are surprisingly good - even less lag than standard. Spools up about 500rpm sooner so peak torque around 3200 - 3300 rpm. Big difference to acceleration. Turbo conversion by Essex turbos England.

EvoEight,

I guess what everyone is trying to tell you is that in the world of OE turbo preformance, you got it as good as it is going to get for the displacement... short of modding your car as has already been suggested that is. As OE turbo boosted cars go, there is very little lag in the Evo... now if your spending any time below 3000rpm less idle, well, shame on you. Because that, sir, is the nature of the turbo boosted beast. So, try the turbo back exhaust, etc, etc... or go out and have a stroker engine built and tuned. Otherwise, you bought the wrong car for your tastes, and are posting in the wrong forum.

Maybe you would have been happier with a STI...

ps, this is not only in reference to this thread as you have posted elsewhere on the same subject.

turbo upgrade

Well
my intensions were to see if somebody would bring us there car and let us test before and after we uprade the turbo. We will do the first upgrade for 250 dollars.I was told today that we should see at least 100hp at the crank on the first upgrade maybe more.Thats just the first one.You have to crawl before you walk. Then if everything works out we should be able to do further upgrades.Anyone that wants to try this please call me at the shop or e-mail me back.
thanks chris wertz

Maybe if you added a little more info on what you plan to do to "mod" the turbo, people would be a little more receptive. Since the wheels spin the reverse of what people think is a normal direction, average Joe Evo owner is going to think it takes some high tech wizardry and very special parts to accomplish an upgrade on this particular turbo. It might be as easy as using existing parts, or maybe not. Then there is the fact that very few of us are going to hand over our keys to anyone, much less a stranger for an extended time. You'd be better off getting your own core to upgrade and coaxing someone in for a test and tune with the owner present for a day or two.

Seriously, I laugh every time I read about someone complaining about "lag" on the stock turbo!

Exactly, what specifically is being done to the turbo that makes it upgraded?

Bigger compressor/turbine wheel? Bigger compressor housing??? Clip???

What is the stock turbo ? Is it this one TD05H-16G ? And if so, what's the difference between that and the TD05HR16G ?
