E85 and Exhaust Temps
So ive noticed while driving around my exhaust temps have been about 900-1000deg. When i had just pump gas or race gas my temps were 1200 and up. I also have noticed that as soon as turn the car off and let it set for about 5 mins my engine temps drop alot and i have to warm the car up again. Just thought id share this bit of info
My buddy w/ a built civic & SC61 told me the same thing. His EGT's were a couple hundred degrees lower running straight E85. The stuff has a lot of potential and should be readily available to most areas in the next couple years.
I have been following several E-85 threads and have decided to look into this when it becomes readily available in the Atlanta area .
I plan to swap injectors, up the boost and reflash it myself to get optimized. On long trips I would have a gas fuel map ready to go optimized for the larger injectors.

What fuel setup would I need for a full exhaust and reflash? I am seriously considering doing this. I am a student in Eugene most of the year and have a fantastic biofuel gas station near by.

Very cool stuff here.

I would bet you could almost max out 880s on a stock turbo car and E85. If you had the tune according you would be atlest 50hp over pump gas. I would do a inline pump 1000s and flash tune. I would also flash tune gas so you could switch maps if you had to.
I would go 880cc and a good tuner. we have a bunch of shops up here in the NW that could help you with the tune. I'm sure ECU Flash would work fine and i know the stock ecu throws a fit with 1000cc injectors. I'm wondering how E85 would do for road-racing? I would imagine it would help keep the engine cooler
Right, a gas map would be a must. E85 will not always be available. What would you use to store different maps on?
Alcohol definitely burns cooler than gasoline. Before water cooled motorcycles they used to drill the jets in the carbs and run alcohol instead of gasoline. The bikes would over heat severely in the desert on gasoline, after the alcohol mod the bikes ran very cool with no problems.
I have a question (please have mercy I am not totally up on tuning yet). From my understanding the evo has two maps built into the ecu (low & high octane I guess with different knock thresholds I presume) But could you tune an Evo say to run pump gas as its low octane mode and E85 as high octane mode and therefore not really have to switch tunes. I am not sure if thats how it works but it was an idea i had.
