Help: lowering boost on stock turbo

So I am probably going to run the stock evo 8 turbo on my lancer. I already have a custom manifold and the turbo. I will not be running over 8lbs of boost and I believe the 16g wastegate is set to 19 psi?? I know Forge motorsport has adjustable acuators with replacable springs, should I go that route? or is there some way I could use an external wasegate and disable the one on the turbo?

Any help would be great.

As far as I know they dont run high, thats what the boost solenoid is set at. I am pretty sure they are much lower that 19 but I know they are above 8 psi, I will have to check now.

Edit: just read its around 11psi, search engine works wonders.

I dont think so, not unless you modify the wastegate or buy an adjustable one, but if I recall I dont think the adjustable ones go that low. I dont think they have wastegates that will go to that low for the evo 8 turbo (most people dont run 8psi on an evo). Some type of EBC might be able to control it to 8psi, I am not sure. Maybe somebody with more experience will chime in. Derek

You can probibly try to respring the wastegate, the forge WGA wont go anywhere under 23 psi from what I have heard.

The Forge WGA has multiple springs with different psi ranges. The one most of us is a 19-24psi spring, but there are lower ones. With the 19-24psi spring, it depends on how you set the preload. Mine would boost the minimum of 19psi with no MBC input, then I raised it from there...

Unfortunately, I don't know of any way to only run 8psi.

Ok, I was actually under the impression that the softest spring for the forge peice was at about a minium of 23 psi. I read it somewhere, guess it was wrong. I guess a forge peice with a custom spring would work, maybe a phone call to forge and they could help you out. The problem is, your using an evo turbo, and no one in there right mind wants to spend money with an evo to run 8 psi on stock turbo, so theres really no market.

I have a Greddy profec b ebc and when i turn it off my boost is only about 9 psi. at low its 19 and high its 23. Maybe you could just use the same controller.

If it shows 9psi, then you have a boost leak, a faulty wastegate, or the gauge is wrong. Base wastegate pressure is 11psi on the stock Evo wastegate.

Karta, some may only see a minimum of 23psi with the 19-24psi spring, but that's just one of the 4-5 springs that Forge has for it...

your best option would be to weld the wastegate open on the compressor and then run an exteranl wastegate on ur car..... now you can run 11psi on the lancer w/ bigger injectors, ie. 2002-2003 WRX injertors 420cc. and a good tune using EcuFlash if they perfected it...or getting a tunable piggy from RRM. and
a) tune yourself w/ Wideband and EGT
b) going to a shop to get dyno tuned

other things you will need is FMU or ajustable FPR, and a Walbro 255 fuel pump.

PS. "imput" is not a word. Not sure why people always type that.

you could aslo get aem trueboost gauge\controller. WHen installed the default setting is 10 psi of boost. If you go into spring pressure put to 6 and put your duty cycle at 30 that should net you around 8 psi. You might have to mess around with the duty cycle a bit to get 8 but those settings will get you close to your goal. Hope that helps.

Ronin, the stock WG will not go below 11psi, no matter what the EBC is trying to do.
