Check this crap out

This weekend I pulled the head off my evo to fix a blown head gasket. Thinking it would be simply just a bad head gasket, I set out to just replace the gasket. After several hours of bloody knuckles, I had the head off and found out that between cyl 1 & 2, the head gasket was melted away and the head itself was slightly melted/distorted. Bummer. Hopefully the head can just be milled slightly and be fine. Sorry for the poor quality pic, but it was from my cell phone.

I bought it with a blown head gasket. I'm guessing that the prior owner was running hard several times, probably highway, and popped the gasket and instead of stopping, drove it home, then to the auction. That seems to be the most resonable answer.

Anybody know the spec of milling an Evo head? What is the safe limit?

It has the bushar fmic, the top one on their site, it has a chunk missing that was repaired. A HKS intake and filter, factory everything else including head bolts. It is pretty much a virgin on mod's, that it until now.

It shouldn't be too bad of a fix. I'm not too worried about it, I do have a spare head & block if it comes down to it.

If you look closer to my post, I didn't buy the buschur FMIC, it was already on it. I won't not buy a vehicle because it has one company's product on it instead of anothers. That is petty and rude to the car.

Sounds like it had alot of boost put to it on the stock head studs and the head lifted slightly and blew the gasket. Hopefully milling the head is all you will have to do to repair it.

Good luck with everything
