Look inside

hey guys just to give a little back round about me, i currently drive and own the worlds fastest W body impala i have a redic amount of money put into it and its not reliabilty at all. so im looking to buy a 2003 Evo 8 of crouse im going to mod it thus comes the next questions.

I have been reading for a few days and finally signed up today and i cant find a good answer to my questions. im looking into buying the buschur racing gt40R turbo kit as well as all the supporting mods for fuel such as injectors and fuel pump. Now i dunno what to do for cams i have read thru the specs theard at the top and cant find any good info on what cams should be used for what application. this car will be mostly driven in a striaght line i will prolly do a road crouse or 2 but most of this cars life will be seen in the 1/4 and on the street. Also i have read thru here and it seems that the STOCK engines can hold upto 550 AWHP, is this true or am i reading something wrong

Next transmissions i am terrible in this department i cant seem to keep one togther on my car for more then a season, i have looked around and havent seen many theards about people upgrading trans parts. i then noticed that someone said the STOCK trans will hold upto 550AWHP as well is this true?

Sorry for the long post just alot of questions before i jump into a new project if you have any comments to add or see something i should do different please say something.

thanks
jeff

ok if you are getting a the gt40r i'm pretty sure that that turbo supports in access of 700whp...
if you want to hit the 500 whp mark i would say a gt30 series turbo or maybe even a gt35.
for cams and for what you are doing with your car i would get either jun 272's or get buchurs special cams.
also if i were you i would go ahead and build the motor for reliability.
imo you should be running stand alone with a turbo and cams like these and unless you plan on filling up with race gas all the time i would go ahead and get an alky/meth kit also.
i dont know much about injectors talk to a vendor about that, as for tranny shep racing and TRE are the two major companys that build tranny's so that is what i would do. good luck

a gt40r is pointless to do without rebuilding the bottom end(pistons, rods, rings, bearings). if you want to drive on the street and have some reliability i would go with a gt35r or 37r. the gt40 isnt gonna hit full boost until about 5.5-6k rpms therefore it is not going to benefit you much on a stock motor.you should also look into some meth and race gas. you will be able to see 550whp on a 35r and on a 37r it can be done very easily. the 35r will benefit you the most on the stock bottom end because it will spool a lot quicker and you will have a fatter powerband. hope this helps, anyway good luck with the car. i dont think i will ever sell my evo!!

The only thing im worried about with running meth is on our cars its a huge pain in the dick with getting it tunned right everytime you drive it. is it the same with these cars am i going to have to re tune it everytime i go out and drive.

The answer depends on a few things.

1. Do you plan to hit 500 whp on a Dynojet? Or a Mustang?
2. Do you plan to hit 500 whp on 93 octane, or race fuel?
3. Do you plan to run meth?

You should at least upgrade the clutch when you hit 500 whp. If you plan to regularly launch the car (for the 1/4 mile) I would suggest a built transmission. A 50 trim might be able to take you to around 500 whp with the right supporting mods and meth, but it will pretty much be maxed out by then. So you might want to look at a bigger turbo, the GT35 is a popular choice but a 2.3 stroker is suggested. Needless to say, regardless of your choice supporting mods like intercooler, fuel pump, injectors, cams, etc will be needed.

As for meth being difficult to tune, it seems like most people have been running meth without any problems. You have to make sure to use the same mix of meth/water each time, and to have a shop with a good reputation handle your tuning. Otherwise I don't think you need to "tune it every time."

There are quite a few people on the boards who are running 500 whp or above. You might want to search and check out different setups, and find out which one best suit your needs.

i would like to hit 500whp on a dynojet running 93 without meth and without any race gas. im leaning towards the gt35r kit that BR sells.

Not saying it's impossible, but it's going to be tough to reach 500 whp on straight pump gas without meth/alky. Meth/alky makes a HUGE difference on Evos, about 60-70HP I'd say.
