Question Best clutch for bolt ons?

I've tried to search for any thread containing clutches, but couldn't find exactly what i was looking for. I really don't plan on doing any major mods to the engine, just you basic bolt ons, but my clutch is starting to go and would like some ideas on an aftermarket clutch.........any ideas would be appreciated....thanks

Either Act or Exedy is both good clutch for cheap. Good luck on your choice.

I've asked this question before. So here's my experience:

You'll hear alot about the ACT and Exedy clutch offerings on this site. There are tons of threads about the ACT HD street disks, with the only complaint being a small segment experiencing high rpm lockout --- but this is apparently solved with a minor clutch pedal adjustment which will assist full disengagement. The ACT HDSS will hold up to about 450 ft-lbs with only a small increase in pedal pressure, and a tiny bit of chatter. Some people swear by this clutch, and others swear by the Exedy twin disk --- which I've had, and wasn't overly impressed with it's daily commute performance.

You'll probably have to read a ton to make up your own mind, but I've done the reading and already have an ACT HDSS / Fidanza flywheel combo sitting in the spare bedroom waiting for the day my stocker finally decides to give up.

Hope this saves you a little time!

Yes it does thank-you. I have heard a lot about the ACT clutch, but really nothing too bad about it. The reason why i'm replacing my clutch is the prevous owner must have been doing a lot of launches a 7000 RPM's. I just bought the car with 35,000 mi. and it's starting to make some noise, so i figured i'd replace it now than later

Im around 380 whp with bolt ons and my best decision as of yet was to shell out the extra money for the exedy twin disk. The increased pedal pressure was almost unnoticeable going from the ACT hd. Having had both I would say exedy twin disk > ACT hd. My .02

It may be that my experience with my Exedy twin disk wasn't ideal, as I wasn't cammed, but had the rest of the bolt-ons in my previous Evo (03), but man that thing was super-grabby. I'm not a race driver or anything, but it was challenging to take off smoothly.

The Exedy twin (with flywheel) combo set me back over 1200 bucks as well (without install), and thats a good 400 bones more that my ACT / Fidanza combo was with shipping. And yes, PM Steve @ Nolimit --- he'll hook you up.

Then again --- tons of guys love the Exedy --- maybe I got a bad one.

Good luck with the choices!

i second that. . .5K miles and still strong. . .reason most of us don't go OEM again is that makes the disc thinner, for wear reasons, so you won't get as much mileage out of them. . .

Can anyone give any insight on some of the single plate choices there are out there? My clutch just started to go and I'm recently unemployed, so I can't spend a stack on a really nice twin plate. Plus I'm not planning on making more than 400whp on my setup, but if I ever do then I'm sure I can upgrade.

Anyway, I'm currently looking at the Exedy stage 1 with lightened flywheel. Sound good?

Anyone? Don't want to make a new thread for basically the same question. I'm just not looking for a twin plate.

to correct Tsurugi-san

the ACT HDSS will hold 495ftlbs and is the best for most of us here on evom. i have one with a prostreet 10lb flywheel and im at 400whp right now and there is no chatter like the stocker and the pedal feel is sportier but not so much harder to push. its a great clutch and i think i paid like 750 for the combo.
