Mods Safe to run Stock ECU

I'd like to see this turn into quite a large thread for people who don't have tuned evos (yet)...

I have started with the TBE and posted the link to install antifoulers. Please post any relavent links for users if you have them (installs, common questions, etc).

Please list mods you believe or are sure that are safe to run on your Untuned ECU without damaging or altering the ECU's outputs...

I will begin with what I know...

Mods (TBE)
1. 3'' Cat back exhaust
2. 3'' Downpipe
3. 3'' Testpipe or High Flow cat with anti fouler (CEL fix)
.......................See how the CEL fix is done https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=114931

Performance wise you wont get too far w/ out compromising efficiency/reliability of your engine or get the maximum power safely from your mods w/ out a tune.

Do you mean mods that don't require a tune? I can't think of any reason to list mods that can be used with the stock ECU, because that's just about any mod.

Many mods should not be used with a stock ECU (engine mods), for example running a TBE and intercooler or different air intake setup can cause high A/F ratios without a retune...

taken from evomoto.com in regards to a testpipe without a tune (although if done right with CEL fix, you should be fine)

"the ECU will retreat into a "limp mode", running rich, reducing timing, and if you are still using the stock boost control solenoid, reduce max boost, in an effort to protect your Evo from a "problem". Not all Evolutions react this poorly to the code thrown from the use of an off-road pipe and there is no way to tell if yours will be one of them. "

Power increase mods only please!

Uh, you're getting confused. You mean to say mods on an UNTUNED stock ECU. The vast majority of us have the stock ECU that has been reprogrammed with a flash or altered with a piggyback, but it's still the stock ECU.

Also, you should read around some more or maybe post on RMEVO.com to understand the basics, such as the fact that a test pipe is quite alright on the stock ECU whether tuned or not. It will not cause limp mode - not sure why Evomoto would post something like that. It's extremely rare to ever go into limp mode, and it only happens in catastrophic circumstances, not from adding a basic mod like a test pipe. The code thrown by a cat replacement pipe by no means causes limp mode - it's just a notification code and has no effect on the operation of the ECU.

Stock ECU can be used with just about all you can do to your EVO it just needs to get flashed/tuned properly for you mods. I think I remember reading the highest HP on a stock ECU here is jus shy of 600whp

I apolagize.. When I meant "stock ecu" I meant untuned....

I'm referring to what engine mods can be used for increasing hp on an untuned ecu without being harmful to the vehicle

So what mods can you do with a "non-flashed/tuned" ecu? I have tbe, the injen full intercooler piping, and the turbo xs rfl vta bov right now.. and I'm fine. Atleast it seems fine to me.

thanks in advance.
