Exclamation help with a cat back install

ok, i searched around and couldn't find the answer i was looking for.

here goes.

i am trying to put on a cat back exhaust right now, and i cannot get the nuts on the rear of the cat off.

i dropped the front of the cat off and have the resonator pipe with cat attached on the ground thinking i could take out the o2 sensor and pull it into my basement to get some better leverage, but the o2 sensor won't budge either.

so i am stuck. i really hate to put everything back on, but i cannot get the bolts on the rear of the cat to budge even a little.

i tried loads of pb blaster, and even the blowtorch. but it is not moving.

any suggestions would be appreciated before i begrudingly admit defeat.

Its needs heat like a torch to break them free., i used a mapp gas torch when i did my TBE to seperate the cat from the b-pipe.

i know you siad you used a torch but it may take quite a bit on time to heat up enough.

i know getting the 02 sensor out could be a biatch...the best thing to do and what i invested in was an o2 sensor socket...its 22mm with a slit(about 1/4 in gap) so that the socket can fit over the o2 and allowing the wires to come out from the gap...this tool will help you break loose that rusted shut o2 sensor for sure

Air tools ftw!

I ended up using an impact gun and an o2 sensor socket to get the o2 sensor off the stock cat.

Impact gun should make short work or your cat bolts as well.

a breaker bar and a o2 socket for the o2 and a torch and a impact for the cat bolts.

have you tried torqueing the bolts off the cat....basically a ghetto breaker bar(3/8 ratchet with a extension bar to give you more torque...not recommended but it works!!!

i think i am gonna give the torch one more try, then if that doesn't work i think i am gonna try to sequester some air tools tommorow.

Mine came off with the car warmed up, wd-40 and a pipe as a breaker bar with a socket attached to it. Beefy arms help too Have someone on the other side underneath the car hold the midpipe so the cat doesn't move around as much. Good luck

I had the same problem and ended up breaking the one stud right out of the cat. I had the car on jack stands and got one leg under there with the ratchet dangling off the bolt and after enough kicking + one good (Ihate this fing car) push it broke lose. So just keep fighting it.

My o2 sensor seemed as if the threads were stripped to begin with. I had a hell of a time getting the stupid thing off the cat at like 2000 miles. I used a 21 or 22 mm wrench and went at it. It took me about 30-45 minutes to get that off. PB Blaster was my friend.

ive had cars with 100 miles on them like this..

ive had to remove the washer on the o2, and then file the first two threads to get them to re-engage...

even with good 02 sensor tools!
