Michael,

Please read my post carefully again, I said the vents are shaped in such a way as to help flow the air OUT (Eductor) of the engine bay as there is a low pressure area above the hole, caused by the air flowing over the bonnet as you said.
The vents REDUCE turbulence and so make the outward flowing air, flow more efficiently and so increase the cooling effect, removing hot air from the engine bay.
With the vents removed you would get a lot of turbulence around the hole which would increase induction of dirt and rain into the engine bay.

As you know I am an aircraft engineer and part of my job involves stressing and aerodynamics, so I am not talking crap

Regards,

Clive

Still not convinced, Clive. I'll believe you when you give me the data of a windtunnel run with the bonnet
Why have they made it removable then? There would be no reason at all to make it a removable item if what you say is true... and like I said, there's absolutely no dirt coming in from the top while driving, as I explained from the drive through salt-water Autobahn. Did the 6 WRC have that shroud or not? That should really answer the question...

Michael,

Yes the only way to know the exact flow of air is to put the car in a windtunnel, if I was still in my old job I might have been able to do this as we had 3 wind tunnels to play with, but these are my views on the flow from my experience in the field of aerodynamics (which is pretty critical when it comes to flight )

As for making it removable, most parts of the car are removeable for replacement purposes, in case of failure, damage or cost. If you damage your bonnet you want to buy a bonnet bare, not with all the extra bits attached that you already have.

You said you have no dirt coming in when driving, thats probably true, but I bet the efficiency of the hot air being removed from the engine bay through the bonnet hole is reduced.

Who knows for sure, as you said the only way to know definately is in a windtunnel, but its fun discussing it , and it'll be interesting to see if the WRC have it fitted, and I have the feeling they didn't
I'll try to find out.

Hehe, I have the feeling they didn't either, at least some times. Now, you would've been the don if you would've managed to put the car/bonnet into a windtunnel, although I would call it overkill to settle this "argument". At least this way we can both be right in our own minds

Put the oil cooler in and took the car to the track (Sepang). It worked like a charm, oil temp never got higher than 110 even though I ran 5 laps straight.

The Sepang track is really great, very even tyre wear, large run-off areas, marshalls at most corners, etc. They even let you use the pits (not just pit lane). If any of you ever get a chance to drive it, I highly recommend it.

I am through upgrading the car, I will now try and upgrade the driver.

Well said brother! I'm in need of driver upgrade too.

Do you mind sharing with us which HKS cooler you get? Or HKS only has one type of cooler for the E6?

Also, by any chance do you know how many ROWS does the cooler have?

I'm contemplating of getting an oil cooler myself. I heard the HKS cooler has "only" 12 or 14 rows (which actually is more than enough as I'm sure you've found out); whereas a DIY cooler can be fabricated having 18 or 20 rows.

You must've gone for the April 14th track day (which I missed )

GDB,

I think there's only one HKS oil cooler for the E6. Didn't count the rows so I can't tell you. All I know is I don't think I can get anything bigger in there.

Yup, went on the Apr. 14, too bad you could not make it. Did you go to PG in March? Went with a whole bunch of Scooby's
