Clutches

Im having a difficult time choosing my next clutch for my IX... I had stock never burned i had exedy twin plate burned on first launch 370 whp. i had the ACT 6 Puck sounded and felt like crap.. and i had the TILTON carbon to carbon (by far the best clutch for high hp car ) 3500 $ tho not cheap... Im thinkin about the HKS twin plate Gold clutch anyone have any input i need to hear the GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY if anyone can help me out that would be great.. another choice that im thinkin about is the TILTON single plate ... which clutch will hold better and more power.. thank you in advance

I am running the twin plate exedy....I have had it for almost 20k and it is still feels almost brand new. Also it is more affordable than the ATS although I have heard really good things about the ATS

so was the Tilton carbon/carbon on your evo8 and now you're looking for something for your evo9? Can't really tell if that's the case, just wondering why you don't have the Tilton anymore, that thing should have lasted forever (well, almost).

tilton twin disk ceramic, but if you have the $$ go for the full carbon as it is the best possible clutch money can buy

u need to ask yourself how u will use the car. is it drag, road race, or a street/strip combo? my clutch blew out last may & i will throw in a Carbonetic (used 2 b called ATS) twin plate carbon with 1350kg plate after the trans gets rebuilt.
Y Carbonetic? the carbon/carbon setup grabs better as it gets hotter due to the mixture of carbon w/silicon. they also make LSD's for EVO's as well. based on your power, the twin 1350kg will do. if cost is an issue they also have a single plate 1600kg which is better suited for mildly tuned EVOs. if u are road racing i would say do the twin 1000kg or the triple 1100kg. if u have a monster running 11.5 or faster get the triple 1350kg. Carbonetic is the last clutch u will ever have to buy & replacement disks are about the same price as a whole new stock clutch-around $500. the clutch is the weakest link in our driveline so if i were u, overbuild up that area, & then u can launch that car like the trunk's on FIRE!!!!!

The HKS clutch will work fine for road racing only. remember, the japanese do not usually drag EVOs so their clutches are a little more fragile. the Cusco units are made by Exedy & i also looked at ORC (ogura racing clutch) but they only make drag clutches for Skylines. go figure...

wow... for that much HP sounds like you are very tough on clutches...

Hopefully my newly installed twin disk doesnt go on the first launch...

Try the new carbonetics clutch if all else fails... they are new to the evo market i think...

i heard the cusco twin disk is pretty good. it is made by exedy or something like that. and it has self leveling system which balances for equal wear on both the flywheel and transmission side of the disc to promote longer clutch life. it costs $1549 shipped at www.gruppe-s.com.

Ok i sold the car with the tilton the OWNER of that car is currently selling the car for a steal and has no luck of selling it IF he wont sell it i will buy that tilton back off him i paid 3500 for the clutch and the car held the power just fine at 600 whp this evo is going to have minor upgrades but i do need a clutch thats gonna drove like stock thats why im going to HKS twin plate and it is a PUSH configuration not like PULL with any other clutch on the market.... I just wanted to hear people talk good or bad about the clutch... IF its not going to hold couse i will go crazy with the car again then i will sell it and get the tilton for now ill chill with a STOCK feel clutch....
