Turbo is maxed out, why?

For some reason i cant boost less than 30 pounds.

i replaced all my vac lines double checked everything. im not leaking anywhere...

i had the mbc/ebc set at 20 pounds and it wont run that. even when i turned both down to the minimum to run wastegate i cant.

when i connect the turbo outlet to the wastegate outlet i run wastegate boost

any ideas?

thanks!

here's another thread i made with a little more detail...

Just a guess but could your boost gauge be off? 30 pounds is a $hitload for that turbo. . .

so your saying even you you dont run a boost controler and connect the boost source straight to the wastegate it still boost 30psi????
then your waste gate is broken cuz if you run straight off the stock waste gate it should boost 11psi.

you better be careful and get it fix before you blow your motor

See if your wastegate is opening correctly pump some air into the line. Do this with the car off and look.

[quote=4 Wheel Slide;4079455]For some reason i cant boost less than 30 pounds. ......when i connect the turbo outlet to the wastegate outlet i run wastegate boost.

So, how many pounds per square inch is wastegate boost exactly, in your particular case? As I understand it when you connect directly from the WG solenoid to the compressor nipple you get base WG pressure. So how many PSI are you seeing?

So, when you connect directly from the WG solenoid nipple to the Compressor outlet nipple you get 11#. Now, with it hooked up in the aforementioned fashion and doing a WOT run in 5th, do you get boost creep or does it hold steady at 11#?

when i have it looped it holds 11 all the way to redline... no creep, no spikes

when i have the mbc plugged up it spikes 30 holds it til 5500 then tapers to 24 by 7500...

(i turned the meth on for this experiment and backed off the timing....)

So why not eliminate the EBC & MBC from the equation for the time being? That is, disconnect your controller and instead, set your flapper valve to open at your desired max boost level(18# or whatever) by adjusting the actuator rod(shortening it) a single 360* turn at a time until you reach 18# of preload. I know this seems Neolithic, but it'll hold boost steady at a much safer level than the 30# spike you are currently experiencing.

Just try this for the time being, that is, until you find out what the true source of your problem is. It is important for you to set preload at a higher than base(11#)level anyway. Sometimes when you are using a boost controller but your WG puck has no preload, the controller can't really control boost properly because the lack of preload causes the flapper valve to be constantly cycled on and off of its seat.
