take it back to the dealer asap... and request a whole new tranny...

my 5th gear was grinding from day one... but i didnt want to not have the car for a week or 2 when i just got it so i ignored it...

and they hassled me a ton when i finally took it in. and guess what.... 4 months later the grind came back... not as bad though... when it blows up ill fix it...

Welcome to the Evo
They are loud, noisy, notchy quirky little beasts

46,000 miles later my evo is shifting much smoother than it used to - still no problems to speak of that I used to worry over...
Mine used to grind, be hard to shift as well. Make sure you really are pushing the clutch in fully.

You may also choose to have the clutch pedal looked at to see if it might need to be adjusted out slightly - worked wonders for mine, I used to get totally locked out of the next gear at redline shifts!

when i took it back in they put it on a lift and said my tires looked abnormally worn. they said i drove it aggressive...

i responded with a FUUCK YOU! and said have u seen the commericals and the brochure. its advertised as a full breed race car, which it is. and 2ndly the factory aligment on these cars is pretty aggressive thats why the inside is wearing out faster than the outside.

i took it to another dealer, i got my tranny fixed, free alignment, tire rotation, oil change, car washed inside and out, and a loaner for a week.

moral of the story is.... not all mitsu dealers suck, ya just have to find the right one.

cheers!

My second gear has been grinding daily ever since I got it a few years ago so I think you should be fine

Adjust the clutch takeup. I did, b/c mine grinded a little bit when shifting more spirited. I adjusted it and voila, done...smooth!

yeah i have to agree. if its a major grind then its the syncros. if its just a notchy and noisy shift, u may not be depressing the clutch pedal all the way or it needs an adjustment.
