the cost of the cossie cams were w/ the titanium retainers and springs. $1700 included cams, retainers/springs, and install. That was a quote i got from 2 different places.

This debate was not for my car in particular alone. I just listed my mod list to give you an idea of what mods people have done. Concerning the ARC fmic, yes, that was my choice to purchese it, but not everyone can afford one. This isn't a debate on whether I should do this, but more generally speaking.

Another thing that was brought up was purchasing the larger items first to get that sum of money out of the way first. ( ie... keeping boost down until cams / injectors are purchased).

Great feedback.. thanks guys

$600 for cams + $300 for install + $400 custom flash = $1300. Don't need the Ti retainers and springs, but I didn't think they were more than a few hundred anyway. $1700 not including the tune seems like a lot.

I'm sure many people can afford the ARC FMIC, but they still choose to get more for their money elsewhere with other mods.

I don't see that being a valid argument at all.

you dont need to get cosi retainers/springs just because you are running cosi cams. you could also go with works/ams/buschur springs. you should not need injectors at this stage, but they will help if you get every bolt on possible to max out the stock turbo on pump gas

understood about the cossie valves/ retainers. warrlaton, with my purchase of the arc fmic, that was on my personal car. I wanted it so i got it...

This discussion has nothing to do with my choice of modifications, just a thread for suggestions on what may be better...

please give some reasons why you would choose A over B...

bosshog,

Yea, they're not needed, but some guys want to rev real high and if the head is going to be worked on, might as well do it all at once...

What's everybody's perspective on that move?

You waste a lot of $$$ in your tuning path.I would go with Cossi and tune, max the stocker then GT37R.Get USDM,JDM power part suck, overprice and not efficient as BR,AMS..... parts.

would any valves / retainers that fit a IX work with the cosworth cams?

I'd personally recommend doing the headstuds while the valve cover is off. Plus, you wouldn't need to worry when you boost higher w/ a 100oct / race gas tune.

I am not saying not to get spring / retainers. Just the fact that you do not have to get the most expensive spring /retainer combo I got the cams with works spring retainers. I am sure the stuff ams or buschur sells will be just fine as well. at the end of the day, you should be able to get the combo shipped at under 1k$ to your door. I would also try to get as best a combination as I can before getting a custom tune as it gets expensive to get a custom tune after custom tune
