Ultimate Racing Stage 1 Plus Kit Vs. Buscher Racing

OK, so I’ve been reading and researching upgrade packages for my new EVO. I have heard claims from the various tuner shops and I’m down to two. So, my question is, who has the best package for HP/torque increase, 0-60 and ¼ mile? Also, what about the quality and ease of installation of the kits/components? Here are the packages I’m considering:

1.) Ultimate Racing Stage 1 Plus Kit – Kit Includes:
- Ultimate Racing 3" Stainless Steel Turbo-Back Exhaust System
- Ultimate Racing Pre-Programmed HKS Super AFR
- Ultimate Racing Pre-Set Turbo Smart Manual Boost Controller
- K&N High-Flow Panel Filter
- Ultimate Racing HKS SS BOV Kit for EVO

2.) Buschur Racing
- 3” SS Down Pipe
- 3” High Flow Cat or Off-Road Pipe (Off-Road Pipe if it will not trigger Check Engine Light).
- 3” Mandrel Bent SS Cat Back Exhaust
- Evo Air Filter Kit
- Apex’i SAFC tuned by Buscher Racing

My goal is to run mid 12s or faster in the ¼ and low 4 second 0-60 times while maintaining good reliability of the car. I will only rarely run the car hard. My understanding is that both these set-ups will accomplish that. But, I would like to know which is better or if there is another option that would work better for me. So, if anyone has any of these setups or components installed, can you please give some friendly advice to a new EVO owner? I want to run fast, but I do not want to damage my car in the process.

Thank you.

Just FYI it's Buschur. The most commonly misspelled name in all of tuning.

I'm using Ultimate's 3" turbo-back and LOVE IT. I would recommend it to anyone. Perfect fit, perfect sound...priced right.
also have the K&N panel filter. seems to make a good difference. well worth the money.

i plan to get the rest of the kit later on in the summer.

i don't think the hks ssqv is included in their stage 1 plus kit though.

I have pretty much the whole Ultimate Racing setup that you;ve listed. Only thing different is that I have the Apex'i Super AFC2 instead of the HKS AFR, I run the K&N open filter instead of panel, and I run a Hallman boost controler instead of the Turbo Smart. My list of mods is in my signature.

My car runs consistent 12.4's, with the best run being 12.41. MPH is pretty much always in the 109MPH range, with best being 109.85mph. This was done with basic tuning (I did tune the car once on a dyno, but it was for stock exhaust w/test pipe). I will re-tune the car in the near future with this turbo-back exhaust. I am sure the car is making over 300hp to the wheels now. Numbers don't really tell much, it's the feeling. Driving my car vs. stock Evo is like 2 different cars, in respect to speed. With these mods, I've had no ill effects, other than gas mileage going down a little bit (but aggressive driving might have something to do with that).

All in all, I'd recommend the Ultimate Racing setup. Good luck.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot. I've had the mods/car for over 10,000 miles now. Everything works well.

What about Vishnu or Works? I know they don't have a comparable set up at this time but I was curious as to what your thoughts were about these two tuners. thanx

We have the Buschur kit plus a Hallman boost controller. We put down 270 WHP and there is likely to be atleast 290 with a little tuning of the Super AFC. Just so you know, you should go to the dyno to get your Super AFC tuned for best results. Our car with the Buschur setting was running extremely rich (not as rich as from the factory though). Just my opinion.

We've got the Ultimate Racing 3" turbo-back kit, the HKS SSQ BOV and let me tell you - the car's a monster. I've got their boost controller/hks fuel computer but am opting to go the Apexi SAFC-2/AVC-R route (the local dyno is more comfortable with tuning those pieces).

Ultimate racing, I think "their" stuff is pretty good, and they arent like Greddy, if you notice most of UR's things are HKS, but the exhaust is theirs and is AWESOME... especially compared with the Bashur... im sure the Bushur is good performance, but quality looks and sound are a big part and that goes to UR
