Differance between GSC S1 cams aand gsc 272s

Im in the market to get a set of cams, i narrowed it down to GSC for the price and power factor, now im torn between the S1's or a set of 272's, on lancershop each 272 is 209$ so after both it woud be like 419$ but on stikiller.com the S1 set is 540$ after tax and shipping, whats the deal with the 100$ difference between them, is one better than the other?

the s1's are better. the 272's are a little bit improved over the hks 272's but the s1's give you more down low power with the same top end power

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought S1's were the old style GSC cams and the current ones are S2's and the S1 and S2 has nothing to do with the duration of the cams. S1's were unpolished and S2's are polished. Perhaps someone else can chime in on this?

You're both wrong. The S1's are similar to their old 272-264 setup, the S2's are full on big turbo EMS race cams

S1's are more of a stock turbo cam.. The s2's are cams for upgraded turbo's such as 30 or 35r

V1 and V2 were unpolished and polished surfaces respectively on original (2 years ago) cams.

Evo 8 S1 cam specs are as follows (as read from the box they came in):

Duration Lift Lobe Centerline

In 268 10.5 107

Ex 266 10.5 113

I noticed this is slightly different then what is stated on their web site - so they might have made a typo error, or Greg changed his mind on what they would manufacture.

S1 dont need springs, S2's do

I wonder what kind of gain I can get swapping my old GSC V2 272/264's out with a set of S2's and CrMb singles .

Greg?

I have the GSC S1 cams on my EVO 8, My eval on sound alone, pretty happy with them, valve train is nice and quiet like stock. The exhaust sound at idle is kick ***, everyone will know your car is modified. Sounds more radial that HKS 272.

Power? I upgraded to a FP green turbo + usual mods at the same time and gained over 100 HP untuned unfotunately my car has a few limiting issues so when it was tuned for safety I still had 340. When the limiting issues are resolved more power should be had.

340whp on 100 octane on a Mustang Dyno.

Also be aware that the lobe centerlines on the GSC 272s are not the same as the HKS 272s...so if you set your car with the GSC 272s straight up, they will be more advanced than the HKS units. HKS 272s @ +1/-1 are roughly the same as the GSC 272s @ -.5/-2.5, per Ted B.
