good deal.

You seem to be willing to try things. I would suggest doing a back to back test where the only change is removing the side skirts. It will likely hurt your overall "downforce" numbers, but encouraging more air in from the sides of the car should help to fill in the wake zone behind the car and also reduce drag. It's tough to say definitively if this would have a large effect on the total drag because you would be balancing drag created from more air flowing over the rear half of the under body with reduced drag created from the wake. But since the side skirts are easy to take off, it's worth a shot.

The suction comes partially from a rear diffusor and partially from the diffusor effect of the raked floor. Even cars that are running full underbody aero still rely heavily on vortex generation for their downforce. Thus you see all kinds of vortex generators under and around the car. The strakes (not slats) are there to keep the air flow going in the right direction. When a car is turning the air isn't nessasarily flowing along the centerline of the car which results in the loss of downforce. They also serve to isolate each section from each other so that small disturbances in one section don't kill the flow in the others.

The overturning moment assoicated with a diffusor is quite small referenced to the overall downforce generated, due to the relatively small pressure differences across the surface of the diffusor/underbody and the low camber of the airfoil (it's basically straight).
i have to ask if vortex generation and overly all lower pressurized (and moving) fluid is not one and the same thing. flow which are forced to move across "large" gradients will create vortices no? (btw i'm not arguing anything) i'm just clarifying things for myself and possibly your interest...

what you'll refer to as a raked underbody i'll refer to as an underbody with some angle of attack (we're talkin' about the same thing).

now the vortices that are created... the diffuser strakes are mainly there to minimize drag loss right? as the vortices form they cause the flow to diverge in either direction... of course across the width of an underbody in flow there can be multiple flows all diverging and converging against each other, the strakes are there to prevent that part yeah? those would cause alternating and varying pressure gradients under the car and then cause more disturbance which all just ends up as drag (?).

but the lowered pressures from angle of attack... those benefits are still there? or do some of the converging flows create higher pressures... or does non expidited evacuation of the underbody build up higher pressures that then reduce df (i think i'm answering my own questions)

Thanks CBRD.

For an update. I ran the car with all the newest aero stuff we have been trying this weekend. The MPH is up from the last time out with the car but still not where I want it. The car and Trent, did manage to win the Shootout this weekend, actually kind of dominated the class, running a bunch of 9.90 passes and winning in the finals with a 9.84. MPH was mostly 147.xx's. Going to be tougher to hit that 150 mph mark than I had hoped.

I am sure after some time it will. I will talk to Voltex and see what their plans are with the undertray.

how are they not going to break their wheel hubs and bearings running that much offset? do they have new kinds of control arms?

Yes, aftermarket control arms. That way they can run a much wider track without having a horrible scrub radius like you would have with wide spacers and less negative offset.

+1

They are running a custom fabbed HRS/Unlimited Works Wide Tread Control Arms.
(For anyone interested) HRS does currently retail them, but they aren't that cheap

This thread started out with a bunch of pictures of race cars and some discussion about their different aero features. I saw the following thread today:

Someone got to tour a storage facility where Nissan keeps many classic cars and race cars. There's some very interesting aero to see here, and I thought of this thread while I looked at that one. Figured I'd post a link.
