questions for 2.3l guys

getting ready to rebuild the motor in my 03 VIII and i'm starting to lean towards a 2.3 vs a 2.2. you imput will be extremely helpful! thanks!

my questions are: are you happy with the 2.3? anything you would have done differently? any parts issues come up during the build? finally, anything you can add that i didn't ask about?

what are your goals or what exactly are you trying to get out of a stroker motor?

The 2.3 will feel alot better on the street part throttle, better TQ curve and all of the benefits that come with greater TQ. If you plan on trapping north of 140mph a 2.0 is the way to go.

AMS RR 2.3 looks great, but I thought it would be around 5.5K not 7.5k it doesn't need a core, so you could sell your stocker and recoup some of the monies. AMS has already said it has a 9100rpm+ redline.

It all boils down to how much you want to spend and what your ultimate goals are. I go back and forth 2.0 or 2.3 or screw it sell and buy another Cobra.

well the car will be a daily driver w/ some weekend racing. i've got a IX turbo and going to run alky. i'm in the process of looking at a kit a member is selling here, so the crank/rod/pistons are already selected. a very reputable shop will be doing all the assembly, but i'm gathering all the parts to customize my set up.

ONRAILS> i'm not familiar with "o-ringing". i did a search, but haven't found any information on why to o-ring vs headgasket. tell me why...

A stroker and a IX turbo? Don't know man. You're essentially spending $4-8k+ depending on the kit, supporting mods, and labor for about 25ft/lbs of torque and 400rpm sooner spool. Is something wrong with your rotating assembly or do you just want to take everything apart just to have a stroker?

Depending on your current torque level you will gain 15 percent all across the powerband.

For example if you have 400 foot pounds right now and than you upgrade to a 2.3L stroker you will end up with 460 foot pounds.

When will the 2.3 RR be available? It's not on their site currently.

anyone wished they would have kept the balance shafts, or vice-a-versa?

No. As long as your engine is balanced you'll be fine.. Infact if your going high hp. I wouldn't ever even think of keeping the balance shaft setup.

It isn't noticable in my car. Then again i don't have solid mounts currently.

balance shafts have nothing to do with balancing the motor. These motors have a natural wobble to them. if you dont put balance shafts in it will vibrate like your girlfriends favorite toy. If you do you risk the chance of the balance shafts tearing up and tearing up the motor in the process (those shafts spin 2x the motor). EVERY race shop says take them out except JAM. Every race shop will say they have never seen a motor break from vibration but have seen many break from balance shaft failure. JAM, on the otherhand, will tell you the opposite. I have a JAM 2.3 in my car. Motor is awsome, their work is awsome, but i dont like them. Its their way or no way. Tim at AMS is easier to deal with, buy your engine from them.

My advice is put a 2.3, gt35r with a .63 AR. My car hits like a mack truck slamed into my rear. Its a 10 sec car on pump and meth and traps over 130mph. Its violent, and thats the only word i can use to describe it. Ive had the car for 1.5 years, put 7000 miles on it and made 100 drag passes. Car has been very reliable. Get a good tuner and it will drive better than stock. OR, and this is probly the best advice, buy a car thats done already. One that someone has worked out all the bugs, bought all the little parts you didnt figure on, and is now taking a whopen on what they spent vs what they are selling it for. I gurantee if you start a project, it will take longer than you planned, it will cost more than you expected, and its very possible youll be sick of it before you ever get it done.
