It's amazing how stuff gets blown out of proportion on the internet.

There have not been any widespread major problems uncovered with the Evolution.

Every car produced has problems. That's why cars come with a warranty - one or two out of the batch are going to have minor problems due to manufacturing tolerances, environmental factors, and even unaccounted-for user abuse and/or misuse.

To correct a couple of points, there is no generally recognized "transmisison problem" (or any other problem) with the Evo 8, at least not yet.

Believe me, I lived through the heart of the e46 M3 engine failures being discovered via internet coordination on Roadfly.com. If there was a major, significant problem with the Evo transmission (or anything else) you'd see much different discussion of it on these forums...

That being said its certainly possible that problems will come up. But there are no widespread issues that are known at that time.

And second, there is no documented plan for a 2004 Evolution yet. It's probably likely that they will continue production beyond 2003, but no official word yet.

Braf what about the miss a gear shift and wrecked the syncros.

Fine every car has problems and the problem is fixed under warranty but after the warranty is over what happens then.

jedinite what was the final result on that very long transmission problem forum.

intimidator-

You only have to worry about repairs after the warranty if it is a design issue. The data does suggest that yet.

That very long transmission thread, not forum , was mainly about a few early owners having issue. I think there were mainly three owners that had issues in that thread.

Wait a few more months before you start screaming the sky is falling in regards to the Evo tranny. Keep in mind, this tranny has been in use around the world for some time already.

You really seem to be looking for something to be wrong.

I've got that deceleration noise. Kind of annoying, so I'll take it in to the dealership. Only other problem was today when I parked on a steaply sloped parking lot - the engine died right after I started it as if it couldn't get enough gas. It took 3 cranks and some extra gas pedal to get it running.

The thread was started by me after a very real problem was found and corrected by Mitsubishi under warranty This "new" transmission it is not the same box as used around the world as you claim..... there are different components in our tranny...e.g. extra syncro's

That was a nitrous backfire. He is lucky that he didn't split his intercooler in two.

Yes your right. Shiv from Vishnu was trying to add a limited slip on his shop evo and the VII rallyart diff did not fit. There will be some things to iron out with the new tranny witch I'm sure by now they are well aware and already addressing the problems. That's what happens when a now car shows up and in it's first year.
