Has anybody put a mivec motor in a 8?
Has anybody put a mivec motor in a 8?
Looking to see if this has been done yet. I have a rs so some issues I see are using a 9 ecu on a non abs, acd car. If I did the AEM I am sure Dave from BR could work around it. I am prepared to change out the whole wiring harness and whatever else might be needed.
It would be nice to know if anybody has done it and how it turned out.
And yes I just spent 45 minutes searching and did not find any GOOD info.

What the, why?
Did your BR Stg 3 head blow up or something? Keep the Evo VIII engine and get some decent cams... Why oh why in the world do you want to spend all the time and effort to get an Evo 9 engine?

I'm thinking a harness adapter from an 8 harness to a 9 ECU (or EMS) and some additional wiring for the Mivec Cam angle sensor, and Mivec Actuator are the major differences.. I think it can be done, just don't know if its worth the extra expense. I guess technically you can do the swap without the mivec enabled to begin with, then worry about that portion later.

Nope, it is still for sale. I have sold off some parts on the car to mod the Trailblazer SS and get the Evo back to a sane level, that and if all goeas well I will have a Vette Blue Devil late next year. I sold off the stroker shortblock and need to repalce it, why not repalce the whole 8 motor with a 9 since I need to buy one or the other. I still have the BR stg 4 parts so a stage 4 9 would be pretty nice track *****.

Just wanted to share some info on a car that was completed at Pruven today.
It was a 2005 Evo MR that was changed over to a IX motor, stock IX turbo and a 2003 5 speed trans.
Tonight, I completed the tuning on the car and the swap went through problem free, its bascially a bolt on affair with no wiring needed as long as you have the ecu and wiring harness.
The car picked up a solid 30 whp and TQ over where it was as a Evo 8 with this transplant.
I don't think this conversion if for everyone, but if you can find a IX motor and ecu at a decent price and sell your Evo 8 engine then it may make sense to consider.
I can't post the dyno sheets as this car is a race car and the tuning specs and a/f etc are a something the customer does not wish to disclose.
If any one has any questions about wiring details or any other facts of this conversion feel free to PM or email me,
AL
PS - Big props to Kenny and John at Pruven for doing such a great job wrenching on this special car.
also one other person did it. Maxxamillion here on evom. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=233547
things i've found out.
acd doesn't matter, it uses its own ecu. abs doesn't matter it's all that same.
the evo 8 block is the same as the 9 block. THIS IS A BIG ONE
this also means you can swap a 2.4 in easy.
the head and ecu are what you ahve to worry about.
if you're doin' a swap this large... you will strongly consider getting an aem ems evo 9 version. this will simplify things, although the transfer harness will be ugly

also... if you do this mod... best to get a raw head from somewhere, build it up from the floor. aftermarket cams, springs, retainers etc etc. then just put it on.
you need to route a new oil line from the head to an oil pressure sensor (for the stock idiot light) that's the big difference (so i've heard). corrections to my hearsay are welcome.
