difficult to shift
That´s good! The older U.S.D.M. VIII 5-spd is wider spaced with an overdriven 5th, right? I didn't know that the USDM IX 5-spd. box was tighter spaced, though. Thanks! Do you have the USDM IX 5-spd. ratios in your racer?
Yes, that's how the VIII 5spd is.
Yes, the IX 5spd is almost identical to the 6spd in gears 1-4, then it has a short 5th gear.
I have an VIII 5spd with a 5th gear from a IX to optimize for the road course but still be nice on the drag strip (taller 4th).

just took the car to the dealer to have all fluids changed
transmission: dilaqueen 75w-85
transfercase and lsd: dilaqueen LSD GL5
acd: diamond ATF III
needed the fluid change anyway. hope that helps

i was the one who had the speed source 6 speed shifter cable bushings that didn't fit. i actually had two sets that didn't fit. one of the bushings does fit correctly, but one does not. the center bore of the bushing was to large leaving way to much play in the bushing. i put the stock bushing back in it was so bad. i e-mailed lancershop (who i purchased them from), but they have not responded. i just sent an e-mail off to speedsource themselves so we'll see what happens.
if i were you, i would remove the battery and battery tray, and take a peek and see if the bushings fit correctly. it should be noted that both bushings i got will fit in the bushing "ring", but if you grab the cable and wiggle it where the bushing is, you will feel significant movement. also, check and see how the retaining pin is put on there. the cotter pin will not work because there is no hole for it. instead a groove for a c-clip is there...
