Question Air silenecer/airbox?

Does the Evo8 come with any kind of restricitive air silencer/airbox?

All cars I have tinkered with in the past have always had a airsilencer/airbox stuffed up in the front fender that could easily be removed allowing for more engine and/or turbo sound.....

Nope. It has a cold air duct from the front edge of the hood into the air box. No silencer (like the Mustang had and still has today).

Its actually a good example of a well designed air-box.. Since its enclosed, it does significantly reduce intake noise, therefore it is still a silencer.

The jury is still out as to whether its restrictive, whether its cold-air feature makes much of a difference, etc..

However my personal experience is it does become a restriction at higher RPM's if you increase your boost levels (19-20psi to redline or obviously higher boost levels, thats just what I am running)

If you have an S-AFC or some other air fuel computer, you can actually see a difference in the Karmann frequency at Idle, and at different throttle points, the numbers on my open element filter were always a little higher. In theory it can make the engine run a little rich until it learns to compensate for it, or you reset the ECU..
