Dumb question on UICP

Forgive my newbness...

I'm looking at Upper Intercooler Piping, and, I'm not sure, but do most aftermarket UICPs NOT remove factory bends at the IC side?

Also, are there exceptions to this, such as the Buschur UICP?

I will eventually be getting a Buschur Deluxe FMIC (w/ Lower Pipe) and if I don't HAVE to get a mini battery, I don't want to... problem is, I will DEFINATELY want to replace all factory IC piping.

Does that make sense?

Basically, I want a UICP that COMPLETELY replaces factory tubing and DOESN'T need a mini battery... if such a beast doesn't exist, let me know. I will have an aftermarket intake, so no worries of airbox woes

Thanks in advance

ijen, greddy and a few others work without removing the battery.

you can buy UICP's that work with the stock battery and airbox (Injen, Helix, LPI). there are also UICP's that NEED a minibattery kit and aftermarket intake.

Thanks for the speedy responses.

Do the Injen/Greddy/Helix/LPI all completely replace the factory tubing or are there still bends on the IC side ?

injen uicp kit changes all the pipes on the cold side which is 2 pipes. 1 connects to the throttle body and the other to the cold side of the fmic.

not sure what you mean by bends on IC side.

no factory piping is left on if you use any of these kits.

Edit: the Greddy only replaces the top half of the UICP.

All aftermarket IC Piping is going to have "Bends", what I think you mean is soft tubing instead of hard pipes.

Probably the best parts to get are the Nisei IC pipes and the Nisei Mini-Battery.

Don't be fooled by the fact that the battery is small, they work just as well and most even have around the same CCA's. Unless you live in an extremely cold climate, or have a huge buming system (EVO's don't need huge systems) then a small battery will be absolutely fine. Just my $.02

I'll probably end up getting a used Injen UICP or just getting the full pipe kit and selling the lower (unless you can provide me with a reason to NOT use the Buschur LICP which comes with the Deluxe FMIC)

The lower intercooler piping that comes with their Deluxe IC is designed only to work with that IC. If you ever plan on upgrading to a larger IC you will have to purchase another LICP. If you are oK with that, or are not going to change IC's again, then there should not be an issue.

FYI - Full IC pipe kit from Motiongarage.com is like $459 the batter kit is $229

This is what I mean... the Injen pipes are two piece, which is what I want:

Others, such as the Dejon appear to be ONE piece (some stock tubing remains):

Replacing all the other Intercooler piping to hard pipes does not really give you much gain (Except the lower piping), however companies like Horsepowerfreaks.com, Nisei, & Buschur that you must get a smaller battery really only replace those pipes to eliminate bends and shorten the pipe, which will equal less turbo lag.

No reason to replace the pipes unless you are going to get some benefit from them.

Replacing the pipes with pipes the same diameter and same amount of bends as factory are not going to do anything for you. Shortening the pipes on the other hand will actually give you slightly more power. That's why the companies that are actually pushing big numbers require smaller batteries.
