I liked Kee1prides comments. (Look back) - If that's not an avenue your willing to take, give Burschur or AMS a call. They'll steer you in the right direction. Personally, I wouldn't start off with a stroker kit unless I had the money to get everything else along with it.

Stroker is not the way to start your build... With the case of the evo vs the lancer, bolt ons on the evo make a HUGE diffrence in power whereas you are stoked for 2-3 hp on a lancer bolt on... Second, the stock internals can handle 400hp with ease as long as you have a pretty good tune... If you have 6k in mods you should go for full tbe, drop-in filter, boost controller, injectors, cams, and an FP evo green turbo upgrade (you can do a core trade on your stock IX turbo that would only make it cost about $1000) and of course get a well known reputable tuner to tune it and you'd be set... that's somewhere just short of the 400whp on pump gas range, depending on diffrent cam profiles and your tuner, but that'd be the way to start things off with the evo, and your car would remain relatively stock looking at the same time.. Just my .02 cents this is where i plan to be in the next couple months i just dont have the 6k to spend like you...

did you have this intake or have had personal experience with it, or are you just regurgitating stuff you read here posted by AL years ago.

I have this intake for a couple years now and its FINE. Didn't mess up my tune or cause a problem for EITHER of my tuners at all.

do the basic bolt ons first along with driving school. save up for clutch and gas. i love my VIII with the basic bolt ons let alone a IX, which is a beast. remember, you can get into the 11's with a IX and bolt ons.

I could already see you will never fully enjoy your car 100% because;

1) You are asking others to mod "your" car for you.
2) You need to go out and drive the hell out of that brand new 9 to see where your limits are at and what you really wanna do.

like everybody else is saying. There is no need for a stroker kit right off the bat. The stock block is actually good for over 500whp, with a good tune. All you need is some ARP head studs to keep the head from lifting at higher boost pressures.

take that money, get a GOOD Turbo Back Exhaust(TBE), some good cams, intercooler pipes, a aftermarket intercooler, 20G-LT turbo, ported stock manifold, 02 housing, drop in air filter, a boost controller, ARP head studs, Walbro 255lph fuel pump, 880cc injectors(or larger if you plan on going with a large turbo down the road)...ect.

Then after you make 380-400whp, see how you like that. If you really need more power after some time goes by, sell your 20g-lt turbo and stock ported mani, and by a larger turbo kit. Like a GT35R or GT40R or whatever you feel your power needs are.

That would be the wise thing to do. Have fun with your stock block for awhile. After all, it's good for plenty of power.

Keep in mind, your going from a lancer with 140ishWHP......if you had 400whp on tap, you would be in heaven for awhile. It will prolly be a long time before you got really tired of 400WHP and needed more. When the time comes to go bigger, all the support mods are there.

CJ

EDIT: oh yeah, and you might wanna invest in a new clutch eventually. Also, a good TUNE is a must!!! Stock ECU is fully tunable BTW.

thanks for the reply. (side note: i drive a 680 hp viper daily, and use to own turbo'd dart blocked honda, and the lancer was always my daily driver)
ill more then likly just invest all the money like you said, except just for looks, i might invest in a nicer looking turbo manifold and maybe a vsr. not sure, might just get a nice looking heat shield. im more into looks then just pure power. just dont like to see something fast that looks like crap.
thanks for the advise, very much appreciated

**EDIT** this is my summer project money, so ill more then likly start slow on the mods, and have it all finished by august so i can have it tuned

depending on what you want out of the car. for power, here is what i'd do.

1. buy a used evo. miles completely unimportant.
2. send off the motor/head to either buschur or ams to be built
3. send the transmission/trasfer case off to either tre or john shepard to be built
4. buy a 35r/37r if you want a drag/highway beast or a 50trim/green if you want a course beast
5. buy cams to match the profile of what turbo you want.
6. buy an ams vsr
7. buy aem ems
and ams and buschur till tell you about all the little things you need to buy to go along with it. ie fuel pump, head studs, exhaust, upper/lower ic pipes, gauges, clutches, flywheels, electronics etc.

basically the reason is if you buy a brand new 9, 10-15 grand of that is warranty money. you're building the car and breaking the warranty anyhow. so why pay for it? if you really like the evo9 bumper, then buy the evo9 bumper.

i bought one for 100 bucks (life time deal) but im sure you could probably get one for a decent price.

if you just want a nice looking car and don't care about power, why did you buy an evo?? I mean you can drive your dad's viper to look cool, so why do you want another car just to look cool in?

From everything i,ve read about the typhoon system it is the worst intake you can put on an Evo. Al has stated this numerous times in posts and though i have never used it or know anyone who has i tend to believe Al when he says its junk.
