well maybe your problem stems from the fact that you're driving a boat.

but seriously, the driveshaft would have to have been on schindlers list to be that messed up after only 10,000 mi. take it to mitsu and demand that they inspect it for free.

I'd call the thing that goes from the engine to the back of the car the driveshaft, and the things from the diffs to the wheels the propshafts or half-shafts... or maybe driveshafts. But in you saying propshaft, I, for one, understood what you meant.

Can you crawl under the car and look at the shafts? Or maybe one of your bearings went.

What bearings? I have put the car on ramps and nothing seems out of place...do you mean the bearings that support the driveshaft...there seems to be a few spots of grease on the cat heatshield...but nothing I would consider out of place or abnormal...the sound seems to be coming from below the E brake handle and it gets worse when making a turn...thanks in advance for your intrest and imput

The bearings I was talking about were the ones at the ends of the propshafts in the CV joints. You wouldn't be able to see those since they're in the CV boots. But it sounds like your problem is more central, like in the main driveshaft, since you say the noise is under the E-brake.

Hmmmm, dunno. I'd have to look under my car to get some ideas. If I remember correctly the driveshaft is 3 pieces, so maybe one of those joints is fouled up somehow.

Sorry to hear about the banging. I hope Mitsu gets it fixed quickly!

How is your Evo shifted? Hard? frequently? Also you mentioned backing off as you approached the top of the incline? Were you at full throttle, or hard acceleration.?

Is it ticking or clunking like? and more so when turning? Check your front half-shafts, if so.

Does it clunk with engine speed or vehicle speed?

If engine speed, does it do it while in gear? clutch depressed or not?
