Could someone share a few ways you could tell if your turbo is no good.

i did a search but came up empty.

I found a few threads with the basic shaft play, and smoke out of the exhaust.
Is there any other symptoms like the turbo wont build boost or consisten smoke out of the exhaust thanks guys.

 

Yes if the turbo has so much shaft play that it is hitting the turbo housing!!!!!!!! Happened to me...

 

There is supposed to be darker smoke out the exhaust. That is a good sign!

 

Dude, how many threads do you need to start? If it's blowing smoke, spools up very late, makes any noise, or has any bent fins, take it out & rebuild it.
