Check out the anti-lag setup
This guy setup and anti-lag system on his WRX. Makes the car sound like WRC. I wonder if any vendors can make this technology actually streetable for the EVO?

Ralliart UK had a switchable anti-lag system for the 6, if I remember right they included it in the rs 450. I wouldn't say it's 'streetable' unless you consider huge flames and the loud bangs streetable - I would think it would kill any cat as well. Certainly wasn't legal on the UK roads, I doubt it would be here...
Anti-lag is very hard on your turbo. Raises the temperature greatly and will shorten its service life. Our twin scroll turbo is good at making early boost and flowing good volume but does not like being overheated. Experiment as I did, but be ready for the clouds of smoke when your turbo quits.
There have been several people who really wanted anti-lag in the WRX forums after seeing InitialD, but as they said; it isn't a good idea for a street car. Go price a replacement turbo before you consider putting it on. If you really want something like that, get a stutterbox (aka two step).

that vid that someone mentioned in the thread has a car with an even more hardcore ALS in it!! Smoke and flames flying
heres a quick link... http://www.22b.com/video/als.mpg <--- right-click and save as
I wouldn't be suprised to see someone come up to the car and say "dude, i think you blew your engine" or something when the ALS is turned on and they don't know what it is... cause if you think of it, it does kinda sound like your engine exploding repeadetly

i know a few guys with als and launch control on their evos. you can turn it on and off from inside the car. so the car is definietly streetable, unless of course you use it all the time.
helps a lot, especially if you are running a big turbo (3037) and need to cut out the lag in a race situation.

A flat-shift box will work great as a cheap ALS.
It has a preset RPM and cuts fuel and spark every 40ms or so to keep the RPM down but the turbo spools.
A company in Australia called T-sport makes one for like $150.
Old fashion stutterboxes only cut fuel which is bad for the cat.
This one cuts both so you don't go rich or lean.
Basically you set it about 2000 rpm of so below redline. When you are staged you can hold the throttle down and it will spool the turbo but keep the rpm down. When you shift, the bov won't open because the throttle is open and the flat-shift will keep the rpm down, so you are still spooled durring a shift. Great for those who race at the drag strip, etc. And it is much less damaging to the turbo than a ALS.
