Saturated Timing Belt
Saturated Timing Belt
I'm surprised there are no threads on this. 156 threads when searching "timing belt" and nada about a timing belt with oil on it, etc.
Anyhow, my cam gears ate into my p/s hose as a few of you know from the thread I made. The hose is going in today but a lot of my friends, as well as the mechanic told me that I really need to get a new timing belt, asap, because it has been sitting in p/s fluid for 5 days now and if I got on it, might snap or jump a tooth. Neither being good things, obviously. A friend told me there is something that can clean it off or strengthen it. Any truth to this? I can't afford a timing belt and install job for 2 weeks
If I baby it, will it be ok? Is there anything I can put on it to clean it up and strengthen it?

Anything you use to take off the power steering fluid will corrode the belt further. I would highly suggest not using the belt again. I hope your Evo isn't your daily driver. If it isn't just park it until you can afford the belt.
