0 oil pressure @ idle in high altitude area
0 oil pressure @ idle in high altitude area
I searched the problem I am having but I don't see anything close to what I have been experiencing.
I drove my car over to the reno area (~8000 feet high) and I noticed that the oil light turned on whenever I was idling (~700 - 800 RPM) in normal driving temperately. My defi oil pressure gauge showed that I had 0 oil pressure!!! I had to keep bumping gas to keep it out of 0 pressure. I checked the oil level after parked my car for couple hours and it was full so I wasn't sure what was wrong with my car.
My car doesn't have this problem in the bay area which is around sea level. I use mobil 1 10w-30 oil so is it possible that this weight is not suitable in high altitude area?

Maybe the Oil pump? Not quite sure, however if you have 0 pressure while Idling I would avoid driving it altogether.... If it is the pump you don't want it going out on you while you are driving at say 60mph, that would suck.
When was your last oil change? What filter did you use?

My last oil change was done about 3000 miles ago and used OEM oil filter. I don't have any problem when driving at near sea level though. I get around 4.0 psi while idle and around 40 psi @ around 3,500 RPM which seems normal.
Is there anyway to check the oil pump to see if it is failing?

I would say anything over 248*F (120*C) is starting to get on the high side, but i have seen guys run their cars to 284*F (140*C)!!!!! thats HOT!
