Unhappy Whining noise?

I had some problems with my transfer case about a month back, and just replaced it. Before the replacement went in, the car would whine a lot. It only whined when I was at a higher speed (50+ mph) and I was trying to hold that speed. Didn't matter what gear I was in, as long as I was in gear. If I shifted to neutral, accelerated, or decelerated, the whine would go away. Along with the whine was what sounded like a "tinny" metal rattle. I've been thinking that the rattle is part of the exhaust hitting something under the car.
Anyway, my transfer case locked up on me, and I found a TRE built RA limited slip version of a transfer case. Last night I swapped them and took it for a drive. It's still making the same noise. Should I be worried that the transfer case is going to lock up again?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The tcase locking up seems to make it a good suspect, but if it's still doing it after swapping it you may want to broaden your search. It's tough to diagnose these things over the intarnet, but my brother (mitsu tech) has come across situations where something like a bad wheel bearing will send harmonics back through the drivetrain making you think it's everything but the bearing. On one EVO they replaced the tcase, tranny, rear end, and drivshaft before finding out it was a front wheelbearing.

Hey guys. I have the same problem, but what i dont understand is that my rear transaxle is leaking. If the Tc goes out do my differentials go out as well. Remeber guy I'm not a mechanic so go easy on me.

If the tc goes out, its usually only the tc that goes out.

After the car has been driving for while, is the transmission noisy next to the driver's side tire, while in neutral when the car is idling?

Did the car ever flag a p300 code?

How is the transmission oil? Have you check the condition of it?

What oil are you using in the transfer case?
