The FP4R and Kelford 272's were the two cams I was debating between myself. I ended up with the Kelfords mainly because of the FP4's being on backorder. So far I am very pleased with them.

The FP4R are in stock for the EVO8. It is only the EVO9 version that we are out of at the moment, and not much longer on that either.

BOOST ON!

Any idea how much longer? My buddy and I each have a set on backorder but we're getting antsy!

I just heard back from Kelford:

Hi Chris,

The 272 is the right choice to get the most out of the stock turbo.
Yes, these will run on the stock spring and retainer, your rpm will be
restricted by the turbo well before it is restricted by the valve spring.

Thanks
Kevin

A stock Evo 9 US Spec valve spring on the exhaust side has the following specs.

60# @ the Seat
125#@ .300 lift
140# @ .400 Lift
150# @ .450 Lift
165# @.450 lift

and Coil Bind at .460

most don't run tighter than .040" to coil bind putting that at .420 lift or 10.67MM

Running 11mm's of lift on the exhaust side of a stock spring wouldnt be my idea of "playing it safe" spend the $230 and buy some springs.. it might just save you some in the long run ;-)

Thanks to the cam company owners for making their posts. That's great info for all of us.

9sec9, when will you have your car running again with the fp4r cams? I am very interested on your impressions of the cams.

Thanks

Fathouse, will do. I was in your city today, that is if you live in Indianapolis. Just arrived in Columbus.

Going to throw a curve ball and ask about where the Cossie 272's rank in with these 3 bad boys...

Tom, I too have done some research and your findings are identical with what I am finding as well. Depending on what is said about my question above, I may be switching over to the FP4R. I am going green on the SE with an AEM, so I have been watching you and your son like hawks lately...

I live close enough to indy, a few miles south in a small town named Franklin.

And you didn't even stop by to say high.

Wicked E, you're so wicked. I'm going to start calling you hawkeye. Changes to our setup are getting very close now. I'll be at the Import Shootout at Dragway42 today, then Wakeman tomorrow.
