I was told not to use the S-AFC...

I asked a guy at SP Engineering in SoCal if his shop can install a boost controller and an A'PEXi S-AFC. He told me he can get the boost controller installed, but he wouldn't do the S-AFC. The only reason he gave me was the A'PEXi won't do any good and might causes harm.

Has anyone tried running a S-AFC in 91 octane states?

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you dyno it with a wideband O2 sensor to check A/F ratios. People have gotten up to 30whp with the SAFC. You'll probably get less with 91 octane though.

Not true we ALL use the AFC with great results. It is used world wide and highly recommended.

Infact some people use the Greddy Emanage with better results. I have dealt with the guys at SP for a long time, they are great with the Supra and RX7 market, but when it comes to WRX and EVO, I think they should ask others....

So, is the S-AFC II better than the Greddy E-manage? What particular advantages does one have compared to the other as far as the EVO is concerned? How about the Greddy Profec?

Thanks.

S-AFC II is way better then the old s-afc, We jsut installed one in a friends sr20 powered 240. Apex is helal mad that we have the limited edition in the USA they are trying to find out where we got it from, hahaha. "big secret" Um advantages over the old afc is you can adjsut settings in 200 rpm incriments instead of 500. There are 2 settings instead of 1 (so you can run a base/stock setting and a modified setting or whatever) There is a built in knock sensor, there is lock settings on everything so no one can go in and mess with stuff. And i'm sure i'm missing alot of stuff but this is all the stuff that i've gotten around to messing with.

PS don't call apex for help on wiring you will get bad service, find someone who can read japanese

This is to Dan or Rob, if SP Engineering is only good at the Supra and RX-7 market, why did you ask John for his knowledge on the WRX and the EVO 8? I guess at least they are more knowledgable then you guys are! Don't think just because you guys just got that car, you guys think YOU are the ****! SP Engineering been working on the EVO 7 with Adam at Evolution Imports before you guys even know there is a such thing as a Lancer Evolution 8 in this world (don't mistake it for the Lancer OZ edition now!) And also why is Dan's WRX on the SP Engineering website of all the cars that they have worked on? Did you pay them to work on your WRX, so you can learn how to work on it yourself next time? Here is the picture to prove it: http://www.sp-power.com/photogallery11.htm
And also why you guys still buying from them anyway since they already raise up your discount for not buying enough to meet their monthly quotas? Or is it just for their knowledge and text support that SP Engineering offer to all their customers?

..

Actually SP Engineering if very knowledgable regarding almost all aspects of performance tuning, and one of the lead tuners in the Los Angeles area.

What they probably meant, is that hte S-AFC is probably not the optimal solution for the EVO. We also try to steer our customers clear of hte S-AFC because of the limitations of this unit (single map, no ignition, small map, etc. etc.). In our opinion there are FAR more options that are potentially better "bang for the buck" for the EVO. We will be testing the Greddy E-manage in our project car this week . BTW, I believe SP is able to offer ECU reflashes for the EVO, although we have not heard any results yet!

The SAFC II is also a great unit, differing from the older unit with knock sensor feature, dual map, and additional fuel correction points. There are several differences between the emanage and this unit including injector correction factor, ignition maps, etc. We have both in stock!

Just installed the Perfect Power computer into my Evo. Went from 130Kw at the rollers (173hp) to 150Kw at the rollers (200hp). Apparently the dyno loses about 50%, but I think it's closer to 35% loss since a stock WRX dynos about 110kw on that dyno. If it was 50% loss dyno, I'd have a 300Kw at the crank EVO!

I'll post up the dyno sheets when I get the chance...

Next step, bigger intercooler, extrude hone exhaust manifold, polish turbo housing and ceramic coat the whole she-bang. (already have 3" mandrel bent exhaust)

wow...vivid...you need to think twice about your comments next time. those were pretty harsh words on a reputable company like SP considering you guys don't even have a shop...
