Grind in 3rd?
EVO trans don't like fast shifting. and I think most are having probs at high RPM shifts ( 6000+ ) Just ask any DSM owner.
Make sure your clutch is all the way in and then shift. I know it might take a tenth or two out of your 1/4 mile time but your doing your trans a favor by saving your syncros and gears. Also make sure your trans fluid is changed every 10k miles I know the manual says about 15k (not sure) but that is considered regular driving. C'mon who doesn't beat on their EVO.
for those who are experiencing grinds at lower RPM's (3500 and below) with your clutch all the way in while shifting, your clutch pedal might need adjustment or maybe have air in your clutch fluid that needs to be bled out . Worst case scenario---worn syncros--- hopefully its not. when in doubt take it to the dealer.

Well the STi I drove shifted just fine and most have no tranny issues. It's actually humorous the number of syncro mitsu designed into this tranny for it to STILL have grinding problems.
My 1->2 and 2->3 shifts grind almost EVERY single time until the tranny warms up (10 min usually). This includes me rev matching, double clutching, clutch to the floor etc. Its very, VERY annoying. Even with the tranny warm, the WOT 1->2nd shift has to be done with GREAT care, or it won't go in to gear and I get that awful stripping noise. I do not beat on this tranny, powershift, or hell even shift that fast/hard period.
