Grind in 3rd?

Can anyone tell me why is it that when I shift to 3rd gear, I feel it grinds just a tad bit. I don't actually hear the grind but I feel it on my shift knob. And yes I depressed the clutch all the way...

Is that normal?

Thats happened to me occasionally, but its gone away i think.. could be that it just has to break in, since u dont hear any gears grinding..

Okay then this goes to my next question. With the clutch depressed fully, there should be no obstruction of any sort while changing gears since there is no contact correct?

happens to me occasionally from 1st to 2nd on Evo 6, but really
only something like 1x in 10 tries and only when trying to get it
in really hard and fast. i think i should blame myself because
when trying too fast i'm not even sure whether i'm managing to
depress the clutch all the way down.

My car does the same thing.
I chalk it up to the double syncro on 3rd gear and expect it will smooth out over time.

I haven't gotten the clunk from 1st to 2nd yet. So far I noticed only 2nd to 3rd has a little problem....3rd to 4th and to 5th are just fine......

I wonder if this is a clutch design error or something is not adjusted right from the factory.....Since alot of us have the same problems.....

I have the same problem shifting from 2nd to 3rd, and started a thread about it a couple of weeks ago. The consensus seems to be that 1) it's normal, and 2) it goes away.

i had a little grind into 3rd, from 100miles to 600miles, now i have 900miles and the grind went away. I guess, it was part of the break in?

sorry to bring back an old thread (have been doing alot searching)...

but I am experiencing the exact same things in this post...a subtle grind into third gear...I was just wondering if anyone can give an update as to how their car is doing now?...did it go away?...anyone else experience this as well?

BTW, my car has only 300 miles and I am doing a gentle break-in (i.e. no racing/hard driving)

Thanks fellas.

I had and have this too. Third gear synchros were replaced along with the 5th gear synchros under warrantee last week. 5ht now feels great but that subtle now and then feeling is still there in 3rd.

My car does this and its getting worse. Instead of a subtle grind going to 3rd, it straight up grinds now. Also, 1-2 shift is grinding every time the tranny is cold as well. I'm talking almost EVERY SINGLE shift. You guys think I should go to the dealership and see about having the tranny replaced? I haven't beaten on this car at all and its simply getting worse with time. I'm at 12k and still have plenty of life on my original clutch.

I love everything about my car except for the POS tranny. I think Mitsu needs to let the STi boys design the next Evo's clutch/tranny.

Once again, resurrecting an old post! I now have 1500 miles on my car, and I STILL get the grind...in that gear only. Did any of you that had this problem still have it? Did you replace the tranny fluid, gear replacement, or did it just go away?? How long should I wait til I ask the dealer to do something? It's not bad, but maybe one in every 4 times I get a very noticible vibration when sliding into 3rd...
