cylinder head specs and repair...got questions

BTW, I did a search bt came up with nothing.

My cylinder head warped when it overheated (most likely a failed water pump) I took it to a local machine shop and they removed 0.7mm. The surface is now completely flat.

Here are some pics of the mill. What I am concerned about is that they had to take off some of the edge of the valves and the fact that 0.7mm was taken off. You can also see where they had to take off some of the material around the bolts.

AFAIK and talking with other ppl, 0.7mm is not the end of the world. I just have to try for a thicker headgasket so that I can run the valves without hitting the pistons.

So, should I buy a new/used cylinder head so that I can run my engine safe? It's so hard to do this when I can save so much money ($100 mill vs $1K+ cylinder work)

Anyone have any experience in engine reliability with cylinder warpage and mill downs?

Replies would be most appreciated!

wow i'm not sure on them touching the valves i would think it will be fine but your compression will probably be in the 9's somewhere though.. why all the rust on your valves???

I am only responding because I was asked too.

The head is garbage, throw it in the trash and start over. If the head was warped that far the cam journals would have not been straight either, so we have a way of pressing the head back straight so the cams will actually turn correctly in the head again. Then the head is milled and the material taken off is small. The hacks that ruined that head.............well............

I hate it when you see a machine shop that doesn't know what they are doing, and ruin something that costs that much money.
