Im looking to possibly get back in a evo fairly soon and and considering my options. in my area 03/04's go for anywhere from 3-5k less then 05's do and about 4-6k less then IX's sell for. My goal is to go fast, really fast. At the same time keep it streetable. Power wise im not worried about the 9.8vs 10.5 since it will get a fpgreen or 50 trim anyways. Im just wondering if it would be worth the extra 3k to get a 05 since it has acd or should I consider something aftermarket and what would my options be?

 

I would get the 05.
Or better yet, a IX...those things like to get messed with

 

The ACD doesn't make the Evo fast or not fast. That should not be your main worry. However, IXs will make a lot more power on the same set of mods usually due to the improved head, ECU, and MIVEC.

 

Im not worried about straight line performance mainly cornering. I know that Ix's make more power with the same setup but if I bought a IX I wouldnt be able to afford much of a setup as far as the power dept goes.

 

Evo IX have drastically dropped in price. I bought my brand new MR all it had on it was from upper NC to WV back near Christmas, and I traded my rx-8 for like 14k and paid them 14k. SInce the 08s are comming out dealerships can't charge you 37k for a 2006 car. They have to give some kind of discount. Plus I had my father with me and (he can be kind of embarrassing), but he got the job done lol....
So if you are looking to by a new one and have the cash to do it you don't have to pay the MSRP. But you might be able to pick up a used IX for way less.

Yes, i was referring to real racing, too (road course not drag strip), but still, the ACD isn't a major factor. The front LSD is a bigger factor, imo, and that's another big difference starting in 05 (and 04 RSs).

 

So warr is my money better spent on a 04rs 05 or should I just save the money and pick up a 03 and use the money to mod it?

 

If you want to have the fastest of the fast, get an 04 RS if you can find one. It should be very cheap and allow you to spend more of your money on mods, and your platform will already be very light. A regular 03 will probably cost as much or more than an 04 RS anyway...

dont have a current evo, I sold it a few months ago. On a side note how much does labor run to install lsd?

 

your probably like me and and cant take the low hp# from the stock turbo so with any evo you get you will be swaping out to at least a 50trim

the only real differance thats worth a dam between an 03 and and 05 is the front lsd and acd and for the 2006 is the mivec

acd really has noting to do with racing and i dont really care for it so with a lsd swap the 03-04 evo is the same as the 05
the 06 do make more power but when you start building the motor and swaping out to bigger turbos it does not make that much of a differance. 06 really has the big advantage with the ppl that stay relative stock with the stock turbo.

save your money get an 03 if you plan to build up, swap turbos and make big power
04rs is even better but i persionaly couldent stad no sunroof, powerlocks,power windows

get an 06 if you want to stay with basic bolt ons and stay with the stock turbo


when you start build and moding these cars the evo from 03-06 are really the same car with very minon changes

 

get a ix.. me and my frindsnare always goin at it in his 04 rs against mine and he has more mods and i have 354whp and he has 359whp both done on the same dyno the same day and i still pull on him..see my sig and i always have a few other minors things.

 

True but who paid more for their car?
