Quick spec. 2005 Evo VIII 9k miles. Completely stock drive-train except for some brass shifter bushings.
Last night I was out doing some data-logging on a private road. After 4 or 5 1-5th pulls I notice my shifter felt odd. 1-2 felt loose. Really easy to move back and forth and like it wasn't connected to anything. 4th, 5th and reverse felt very stiff. If I put the car in reverse it required a good bit of effort to get it out of gear.
When the car cools its fine although reverse seems to require more effort than any other gear selection. There is no grinding (other than the typical 5th gear grind at speed).
When I first noticed it I changed the fluid thinking it was a heat & viscosity problem. Now I am beginning to think the shifter bushings are expanding due to heat.I'm going to swap back in the stock rubber bushings and see if that helps. Although I seem to remember it doing it prior to the bushings but I could be mistaken.
Anyone else experience this? If so, what was the remedy?
