backlash adjustment on Evo rear diff.

I am putting a cusco rear differential in my car and am having difficulty getting the backlash into spec. I have the smallest shim available on the non ring gear side of the differential, and have the proper shims for the .002 per side preload, but cannot get better than .008 backlash. I don't get it. Anyone have any ideas, and or run with that much backlash?

Thanks,
Mark

I had difficulty getting my backlash in spec as well with my Cusco RS rear diff. I eventually got it in spec by using the smallest shim on 1 side and double preloading the other side (I hope that makes sense. I set .004 preload on 1 side so it ended up at .002 preload per side like the manual states)

If you need any more help feel free to PM me.

Regards,
Max

Thanks for the reply. I actually ended up having a shim shaved down at a machine shop to .097 to put on the non ring gear side of the diff. and that brought the backlash from .008 down to .005. But it had me sweating it out to be ready for the DC Pro Solo this past weekend. The diff itself works awesome, basically making the car behave just like a rear drive. Awesome.
