Answer from Forge Motorsports

I asked Forge Motorsports about thier DV valve and proper installment. Here is the response I received.

"Tim
Thanks for your e-mail. That particular valve or any recirculating
valve for that matter can be installed either way. Some people install
it in reverse of the OEM orientation because the valve is louder when
installed this way. Some people had mentioned that their valve makes
noise in either direction. It comes down to each cars idiosyncrasies.
You would think that all the cars are made on the same line by the same
people and thus should all be the same but in actuality there will be
some variations in how the cars respond to this (or any aftermarket)
valve. Let us know if you have any further problems.

So basically it can go either way. When I had mine installed with the nipple to the right it made a squeak/schreach nois that was quite annoying and didn't seem normal. When I installed it with the barb facing up ther noise was gone and all I hear now is the woosh. btw.. I had the stock airbox when I had it the other way and still heard that noise, it's quite loud.

Yep, same way mine is set, and it sounds good. Just installed the RMR intake, and its much much louder now. I like it. Not as obnoxious as a vent to air valve, but definitely announces something is under the hood.

So you guys installed the valve with the nipple pointing upwards... basically the longer end was facing the bottom?

Yep. Seemed to mirror the stock valve in that orientation.

I just test installed that way and it seems to make a different sound from a whoosh. It sounds like a cartoon laser being fired, if that makes any sense. I'll try and post a sound clip if I can.

Mark,
You installed it with the nipple up and got a strange noise? with the nipple on it's side, towards the passenger side, I got basically the sound you speak of. Basically I have the chambered area connected to the IC pipe and the valve face is going into the pre-turbo tract. I think the reason for the noise the other way is the air blowing across the valve face from the that direction whistles because the face is also cupped.

That's weird. I wonder why I'm experiencing the sqeaky sound and you're not. I'll be re-installing with the nipple to the side since that seemed to work best for my case.

Go figure, you get the noise the other way.
I guess that is why the response was "either way" so you chose what doesn't make the noise.
