Evo VII engine

Here's another question dumb Q... I've heard different stuff from different people but just to clarify the confusion, Is the engine on the Evos practically the same as the engine on the Eclipse? Whether they are or not, what are the differences?

The engine code names are both 4G63; however, other than the similar size, they don't share many similarities.

In 1995-1996, FIA revealed new rules on WRC allowing teams to develop WRC car with different engine and suspension mounting points than the street/production model...and hence the development of the first bunch of WRC cars like Impreza WRC...Mitsu decided to stay within group-A; therefore, they altered the street prduction version of the EVO. The did that by "turning" the 4G63 180 degree and placed it on the "opposite" side of the engine bay (behind the front axle, IIRC) in order to achieve better balance of the car.

As a result, the intake and exhaust and now "reversed"....

Therefore, you can say that they are two completely different engine...well, not exactly....

I thought the EVO came with forged piston, where the eclipse does not.

Correct me if I misunderstood.

4g63 in the EVO VII and Eclipse are not the same engine. Very few parts interchange. The last Evo motor that was close to the US eclipse turbo was the Evo III. Things have changed alot since then.
