my first evo. need some input.

I just bought an 03 evo 8 and have a little bit of kinks here and there but nothing major. I never had turbo before. my daily drive and the love of my life is my e46 330ci. RWD is a tad easier to launch. I reallized that there is a different way to launch awd and i havnt quite figured it out. i wanted to know what is a safe and effective launching RPM. I've been kind of messing around and it seems 3000k is a decent launch point. any suggestions?

You keep launching at 3k rpm,s and you will need a clutch in about a week. Best rpm,s for a launch is around 5800- 6k rpm,s with a quick slip.

I believe the Evo VIII has a launch rev limit of 5500rpm...

Please refrain from launching your evo, unless you feel like replacing your transfer case soon. These cars were not designed to be drag racing machines.

No.

05-06s come from the factory with a built-in 5000rpm limiter, but 03-04s don't have it, and all years can change it to whatever rpm they want.

Good luck with the new car! You will love it! 5500rpm's is were the factory limiter is set at and that is a pretty good spot! Also many of people have launched there EVO's hundreds of times and had no problems but clutch problems, which if you drive your car hard at all anyway you will most likely have to put a new clutch in also! No big deal just get a twin disc (imo)! Have fun!

i know god damn well evo parts arent as expensive as my bmw. so im kind of happy and willing to throw some $$ to my fun and enjoyment. better than being slow and not being able to beat the **** out of a car and STILL have to give up my right nut for new parts after like 5k miles. I HATE BMW...
