Need Help for Neutral Saftey Wire
Need Help for Neutral Saftey Wire
Anyone know where I can tag the neutral saftey wire on the EVO VIII. I looked all over, searched this site and the
tech site and I can't find anything about it. I need it for a remote start install I am doing. This will allow me to be able to start the car without worrying about it being in gear, if it is, it won't start. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
That's not a netural saftey wire. The car would still start in gear. I need the actual true neutral saftey wire from the tranny. The one that goes ground when in netural and either positive or open circuit when in gear. Thanks anyways.
It's a switch on the clutch pedal most likely. The car won't start unless the clutch is pushed in, dis-engaging the driveline. It's up to you to make sure you leave it in neutral.
No....there is a wire called the "netural saftey wire" it tells the car that it is in netural and not in gear. The one on the top of the clutch pedal tells the car it's ok to shift, the one at the bottom of the clutch pedal tells the car it's ok to start. Please...I have worked on cars for over 13 years, I know what I am talking about I just need help to find the actual wire. Does anyone have a tech manual that shows the tranny wiring. If so I would really appreciate your help.

Well, unless it's 'built in' to the backup light circuit, it doesn't exist. There is no other switch or electrical connection on the tranny. I know this for a fact on DSM's. I remember cars having neutral safety switches long ago (I'VE been working on cars for almost 30 years, please) but neither my 91 TSI AWD nor my 99 Eclipse had a neutral safety circuit. Sorry. I've also looked through the FACTORY service manual and it does not mention any such switch or circuit.
Well, thank you very much for your help. I really appreciate you searching to find an answer for me in actual manuals. Know of any "electrical" way that the car would know it's in gear that I could use (i.e. an in gear wire that goes to ground when in netural but either open or positive when in gear)???
Hey, I already dealt with this problem..
especially after the car tried to run away on me when i bypassed that wire.. its important. you're going to have to do it the hard way. Go get a small, weak spring, about 3" long unextended, solder the ends together, so it forms a circle. solder a wire to that circle. now, the circle should be just large enough that it will go around the shifter rod (under the boot), and not touch it, but just barely. now hot glue the spring cirlce to the plastic hardware holding the shifter rod in place, being careful to not get any into any moving parts. the circle should be hot glued so its not touching the shifter rod only when its straight up in neutral, and the spring should stretch easily when the shifter is in any gear, without straining the hot glue joint or the solder joint. now, ground the shifter rod by simply running a wire from frame to the bottom ball joint of the shifter. I just wrapped a bare end of wire around it like 3 times. now hook up the wire coming from the spring circle to a relay that will break a circuit b/w the neutral safety input and ground whenever the shifter touches the spring. thats all.. make sure you test it. I've had it working in my car for a bit over month now.
No, i dont believe there is an ECU neutral out signal.. If you find one, let me know. the base lancer does not for sure.

Thanks Thwack....I had thought about something like your idea but I really wanted something that was failsafe ya know what I mean. I will definately keep your idea in mind. I have a tech guru that has degrees up the ying yang that works with me and he is designing a 3 relay setup where it won't allow the car to start if it alarm has been set off at all and to activate it you must exit the car while it's running so it knows the clutch is disengaged and the car is out of gear. Hopefully he will get it done soon.
