?'s for guys with 475-500awhp Daily Drivers

Im looking to take my MR to the next level as im selling my 600awhp GMC Syclone. I dont want to go that crazy with the mr as i broke alot of crap with the syclone and dont want to walk that path again with this car. I want to keep driving my evo everyday but make more power and im sure once the syclone is out of the garge the evo will become a nice weather car.

So after reading bernados luck with the BR3065 kit and from talking to Jrod at BR that is def the way im going to go. Bernardo made 475 on just 23psi pump and meth and Jrod well we all know about Jrods success.

So my ?'s to u guys is how reliable are ur cars with close to 500awhp? What kind of gas milage do u get? Are they still just as fun to drive as they were when u had stock turbos? Do u have alot of driveline issues?

Thanks alot guys

well, I for one am at the ~500 AWHP mark. I used to think that I would want more, like 600-680 but IMHO, I dont even use my cars power to its fullest potential now....

anyhow, you asked about reliability, as for reliability, as long are you are properly tuned, and you build your EVO with the right combination of parts (as Buschur would say) your car should last a long time. If you constantly beating on it day and night on the stock block, eventually something is gonna give....somehow, someday.

As for fuel milege, I guess I get about 250-270 miles per tankful of just pure highway driving.... for city driving, it all depends on how heavy your right foot is.

As far as fun, heck yeah, its fun, when I drive my EVO, you just feel the power, you feel in control, the car just begs to be driven fast, and wants to go fast. Your passengers will laugh, scream, cry and beg for you to drive faster.

As for driveline issues, I dont have any. I upgraded my clutch, clutch line, clutch fluids, tranny fluid, diff fluids, all the shifter bushings, the rear diff carrier bushings and mustache bar bushings....I shift normally and dont really drag race that much at all. My tranny shifts smoothly like butta. In summary I mainly built my car to go fast on the street/highway.

With that in mind, I think the only way to enjoy an EVO with this much power is to take it to the track, whether it be auto-x, road race or drag race. Unleashing all this power on the street/highway, especially when there are other "absent minded" motorists on the road would not only be insane, but also foolish and irresponsible.

with a fast/powerful car comes great responsibilty......people wanna race you, ricers wanna annoy you. You just have to be wise, smart and mature enough to restrain yourself as laying all 500 AWHP to the pavement can get you in trouble with johhny law real fast.......with this much acceleration, its amazing how soon the car gets up to triple digit speeds....then you need to realize that accidents that happen at triple digits usually dont result in just a fender bender.... people get hurt, lives can be lost, property will be damaged.

Sorry to sound like I'm preaching, but IMHO, I could have just stuck with the stock turbo at my origingal 380 AWHP and be fine for the street, but I got bit by the power bug and had to step up to a bigger turbo....and I have no regrets

yeah i def understand the need for not having that much power but it is always fun to know that whatever rolls up along side u, u have beaten without even trying. I love the evo and the fun it brings to me when driving it i can only imagine with another 100hp how much faster and more breath taking it would be.

Thanks for ur review and input

I think the block should hold up for a long time, with proper tuning and the right selection of parts.... I mean look around I've seen people push the stock block to the 540-550 AWHP mark and still drive it daily....

but how long the stock motor last depends on how well you maintain the car (oil changes, tune up done etc) and how often you beat on the car.
If you drag race every day and roll race on the highway every night at 2am, something is bound to go....

Rev limit is another limiting factor on a stock block, I can rev up to 8000 RPM's but I dont always do it, unless I'm racing someone and absolutely need to win....other than that I just rev it up to 7000 and shift.... theres plenty of power in that power band range to put a smile on my face.

Sure there are EVO's out there that are faster than mine with 550, 600, 700 AWHP, but making more power usually means more money spent.... and really are you gonna use all that power on the street? If you are a casual guy like me, then no, but if you live life 1/4 mile at a time, then by all means max out your credit cards, cash in your trust fund, rob a bank and go for that 550, 600, 700 AWHP goal...

Hey, the 3065 is a great turbo. You can set it up conservatively (like me) and make 450-480whp, or you can crank it up and make 500whp. I purposely had Al tune it conservatively so I could enjoy the car as long as possible without worrying about killing my car with one bad tank of gas.

I upgraded my clutch at the same time as I did the turbo, not sure how long the stock clutch would have held up at those power levels.

I've put about 3500 miles on the car since upgrading the turbo, and it's driving great. I don't DD the car, I drive it 1-2 days/week.

Much like backcountryGSX, I shift very easily and I don't drag the car. I also keep a close eye on the RPMs, and only go above 5000rpm when I "need" to.

It appears the Evo's stock block does well with large hp, it's RPM and boost that will kill our motors if you're not careful. If you limit RPM and boost to reasonable levels, you will improve longevity.

Oh, and I'm consistently getting about 19mpg. 22-23 on long highway trips.

Nope, no rod bolts, bottom end is completely stock......

AEM EMS tuned by Mark at TurboTrix

I installed the turbo kit myself

Been driving at this power level now for 10,000 miles

I do run ARP headstuds though
