I have the same exact problem and I do not have Cams. I have been told it could be one of the pulleys ( as they go bad in the DSMs quite often).

Any suggestions people?

No Ive been having this noise without the cams. i use castrol rs 10w60 its very hot were i live. now in the summer its 95 at night and 122 in the afternoon. it could be a leak in the exaust cuz i just insalled the aem a/f guage and the noise started after intalling it.

since there are soooo many threads about strange ticking noises I will post this link for everyone. hopefully we can figure out if anyone/everyone is having the same or different noise coming from their car.

On a side note. after the car is warm it will sometimes go away.

Lifter noise! FTW! There was this oil additive called BG that the dealership put in for me, it got rid of it. Its only a temperary fix but no more ticking!
