Royal Purple = lifter tick?

Well i know lifter tick is very common in Evo's , dsm's ( 4g63's ). But i put some royal purple in my car 2 days ago and today the lifters were ticking very loud , a lot louder then usual , my buddy who was like 10ft away from the car even noticed it. Its not constant , Only seems to happen when the cars warm. I had Brand Pen "green oil" from SBR in the car before and i had almost no lifter tick. The car does have cams ( comp 280's ) So i expect there to be some but this is just really loud and is kinda freaking me out a little. The weight of the oil is 20w50 Due to how hot it has been up here latly.

Any imput would be appreicated. I just dont want to damage my engine.

p.s. I had lots of luck with Castrol Synthetic in my Old 2g Dsm , Anyone have experance with Castrol Synthetic in there evo?

I'm currently running Syntec 0-30W (german castrol). The engine has never felt smoother (used Mobile 1 and Penzoil Platinum/QS Q-Power before). Maybe it's the fact that it's a b!tch to find, that I *think* it's smoother.

No lifter tick using this 0 weight oil.

the only time i ever heard of lifter tick after switching to another oil is when a car took a conventional oil and the dude puts in synthetic....but never from one brand to another.

oil filter perhaps?

some of the non-OEM filter designs can be restrictrictive. this causes a drop in oil pressure that is particularly apparent at idle

I use only Royal Purple (5w-30) and have 272's with zero tick. When I replaced my cams I made sure to bleed all the lifters as required before install and it made a difference compared to a couple of friends who use esact same oil. I used Mobil1 for a while before hand, but made a personal decision to commit to Royal Purple. I do agree that if you use a different type of oil filter you can drop pressure some, but not likely enough to make a difference. use only the OEM filter and you shouldn't have to worry anyway. good luck though.

fram oil filters pre-clog. Try using thinner motor oil, and remember to change the filters every oil change.

yes royal purple will cause your lifters to tick.ive used mobil 1 from day one, then once i used royal purple and had it ticking for a while.didnt really know what was up with the car.spoke to my dad,and his first question was "did i recently change oil,did i use a new oil?"so yes the royal purple will cause lifter tick.i have switched back to mobil 1 and wont use anything else.

this was mobil 1 synthetic and royal purple synthetic.i have HKS cams as well

I use an OEM filter every time. I have comp cam 280's so the idle is very lumpy. And the lifters only tick when i drive for awhile , or come off the highway. Bassiccly When the engine is pretty hot , They tick. I was using Brad Pen , Wich is a Synthetic Blend , but was highly reccomend to me, Tryed it and had no problems. Now i got some ticking with the royal purple.

Also one of my buddys told me RP blows up engines? Wich i think is kinda bs , But im just kinda nervous =/

I have been using royal purple (5w-30) in my evo since the first oil change with the mobil-1 oil filter and never had ticking noise.

Why 5w-30 , Could the fact that im using 20w50 Be causing the ticking? I thought this was better against high temps? Correct me if im wrong
