update on my "noise"

So i changed the tranny and tcase fluids, a tiny bit of metal in the tranny, and none in the tcase oil. My shop seems to think there might be some play or gaps in the tranny gears, and this could be causing the noise. I've heard the noise that a tcase on its way out makes, and thats more of a (excuse this for sounding retarded) weeeee sound, where my car makes more of a woooo sound lol. Here is the kicker, ONLY from 40-80!! In gear and out, below 40 it stops. I'm baffled. Called the dealership, they've never heard of anything like this happening. They said they'll take a look at it, and at the most charge me 50$ to look at it and NOT enter my car into the system. I told them I have mani-back exahust and intake, they said they'll leave that off unless we need major repairs, then the guy suggested returning the car to stock before we have to get Mitsu involved. UHG! Anyone have any thoughts to contribute??

They suggested ruturning the car to stock for a good reason. They probably assume it will be a major repair and Mitsu will be involved. Weee or wooo, it still sounds like the transfer case.

I may just be insane but to me a "woooo" sound is a lot lower in pitch than say a "weee" sound. Wouldn't suprise me at all given its characteristics of the noise (40-80mph) the noise could be wind related.

This guy should take a video of the sound and post it on you tube so we can better diagnose the sound.

RoadSpike - correct, its more of a lower pitched hum vs. a whine. At first I thought it might be the tires, with the speeds and all. Hopefully I can find another cheap set on craigslist or something to swap on just to check. I'll see if I can get a decent vid that picks up the sound

I will add though, the car is shifting quite nicely with the new Diaqueen

ok i thought about it all night, I think the wind noise might be something to look into! i forgot that i need to have my front undertray and lip re-attched, pot holes this last winter screwed them up!!! totally makes sense, with the speed specifics of the noise starting and stopping. I'm gonna try to get that fixed asap and HOPEFULLY thats the end of it
